The retro shooter Chop Goblins was released 3 weeks before the originally planned release date on Steam because apparently the developer’s cat was bored. What is behind it you will find out on MeinMMO.
Which game is it about? Chop Goblin is a retro shooter that features a retro look. Originally, the game was supposed to be released on January 2, 2023, but is already available 3 weeks earlier – since December 12, 2022 – on Steam and costs €3.58.
Chop Goblin is the newest game by David Szymanski, the developer of the retro shooter Dusk released in 2018. With Dusk, Szymanski was very successful, as the shooter received a positive response on Steam – 97% of over 17,000 reviews are positive.
What did the cat do? As the “Chop Goblin” developer writes in a post on Twitter on December 12, 2022, his cat “Zamboni” is to blame for the early release of the shooter. The creatures apparently remind the cat of itself, he jokingly added.
“WTF, I just came into my office and found out that Zamboni released Chop Goblins too early! They must remind her of herself.”
Szymanski is probably not completely innocent of the early release either. In a second tweet, the developer adds a few minutes later:
“I was bored, so Chop Goblins is now available! (via Twitter).”
Goblin chaos in different epochs
What is Chop Goblin about? You have broken into a museum, in whose basement evil creatures known as “Chop Goblins” were trapped in a chest.
But they are free again and causing great damage in the game world, which is why it is your task in the campaign of the shooter to hunt down the nasty creatures.
In doing so, you not only travel through the city where the museum is located but also through time, visiting the Transylvania of 1800, ancient Greece, and a not-too-distant future.
The shooter focuses on relatively short gameplay and can be completed in a single session. Accordingly, the length of the campaign is limited to 30 to 60 minutes according to the developer.
Gameplay-wise, Chop Goblin offers 5 different weapons, 5 levels in different time periods, various enemy types, as well as achievements and leaderboards.
