At gamescom 2021 many smaller titles with great potential were highlighted. One of them is Eville, a new multiplayer game from a German indie studio. The gameplay is based on a popular concept: Werewolves of Düsterwald.
What kind of coop game is this? Eville is developed by the German indie studio VestGames and is the team’s first project. You play in a medieval fantasy village with playful comic graphics.
However, the village is not as peaceful as it seems, as murders keep happening – and no one knows who it was. Your job is to find that out. Or to murder yourself.
Eville was presented some time ago, but received a new gameplay trailer at gamescom 2021.
How does the game work? Like in “Werewolves of Düsterwald”, you are assigned a role at the beginning of a round. You are either one of the conspirators or the innocent citizens who want to defend themselves.
The conspirators try to kill the citizens without being noticed. Citizens must try to uncover who among them the murderers are. There are special roles with unique abilities, such as:
- Detective
- Axe Murderer
- Shapeshifter
- Medium
- Slanderer
- Trap Maker
- Seer
- Mayor
- Thief
- Guardian
- Smuggler
You play in rounds with and against other players. If you get killed, you can still complete quests in the afterlife and help your teammates – or sabotage them.
A similar gameplay concept has already been used by the Twitch hit Among Us – and also recently by Fortnite. However, Eville offers several new roles, which in Among Us are only available through mods.
Free demo available at gamescom 2021, release in 2022
Where can I play Eville? Eville will be available for PC on Steam and will be available as a free demo until August 29 (via Steam). So you can just take a look and get an impression of the game.
The release is planned for 2022, but there is no specific date yet.
What else is there at gamescom? Eville was presented more closely as part of the indie showcase at gamescom 2021 on Thursday, August 26. However, numerous new announcements were made throughout gamescom.
