The online role-playing game Genshin Impact is currently being developed by around 500 developers. It looks like a playable anime and is set to release later this year.
What is Genshin Impact? The anime online role-playing game puts you in the role of a wanderer who is searching for his sister or brother – depending on which gender you choose for the hero. You explore a large, open fantasy world called Teyvat, where you can also meet other players. This way, you experience adventures alone or together and uncover the secrets of the world, which is recovering from the collapse of a civilization.
Many developers are working on the game
What is special about the game? About 500 people are working on Genshin Impact. This is a very large number of developers. Looking at the entries from companies like Zenimax or ArenaNet on LinkedIn, the employee numbers are listed as 51 to 200 (Zenimax Online) or 201 to 500 (ArenaNet). This suggests that Genshin Impact has an enormous number of developers, probably more than The Elder Scrolls Online and Guild Wars 2.
When is Genshin Impact being released? The release is still scheduled for this year. The developers have not yet provided an exact date. The closed beta recently concluded, and an open beta is still pending. However, this also currently does not have a release date.
How does the online game play? According to the first videos, you can expect a typical multiplayer ARPG experience with many quests and action-packed fights against monsters. The battles are fast-paced and active.
You collect loot and improve your heroes, of which you can have up to 4 in your party at the same time. You can switch between them at the push of a button. They offer various elemental abilities that must be used strategically against the opponents. There is also a strong emphasis on telling an exciting story.
What about MMORPG elements? You should not expect a true MMO. Genshin Impact behaves in multiplayer mode similarly to Monster Hunter World or State of Decay 2. You can play the adventures alone. However, cooperative gameplay is also possible. You invite up to three friends to your game and fight monsters together.
The story progress, however, is not transferred to your friends’ games.
For which platforms is Genshin Impact being released? The role-playing game has been announced for PC, smartphones, PlayStation 4, and the Nintendo Switch. All platforms do not have a specific release date yet.
