The big gaming show by Geoff Keighley, the Summer Game Fest 2024, delivered numerous trailers and announcements on the night of June 8, 2024. However, there was no sign of the highly anticipated MMORPG Throne and Liberty – fans are worried.
Which MMORPG is it about? Throne and Liberty was considered a great hope for MMORPGs, but now disappointment has set in. Since the MMORPG launched in South Korea in December 2023, reports of its poor performance have been increasing. A release date for the West is still unknown.
Before the Summer Game Fest, changelogs on the SteamDB database had given fans hope for a big announcement (via Reddit). But the big news has yet to come. Fans on Reddit are discussing what this could mean for the MMORPG.
Fans are worried about the release of Throne and Liberty
What are fans fearing? Many players see the absence of Throne and Liberty at the Summer Game Fest as a bad sign. Some fans seem to have given up on a Western release:

Fans seem to blame the publisher Amazon, which was supposed to bring Throne and Liberty to the West. Instead, Amazon announced the console release of New World at the Summer Game Fest. Waiting players now fear that a console version of Throne and Liberty might follow no earlier than 2025 (via Reddit).
And even the fans who still believe in a release seem to be looking forward to it with mixed feelings. After all, Throne and Liberty was originally supposed to have a worldwide release, but it has been playable in South Korea for months now.
“This is going to be like every other Asian MMO, where we are always lagging behind with updates,” writes Reddit user Comprehensive_Fee_23. Another sums up the mood: “Simply sad, there is nothing more to say.” (via Reddit)
Is there still hope? There is still the matter of the changelogs. As MMORPG.com reported, dataminers had discovered some updates from Amazon Games on Steam before the Summer Game Fest, including a supposed list of 135 countries where the MMORPG is supposed to be available as well as hints of possible “Founders Pack” DLCs.
The model with the founders’ packs is already familiar to players from Lost Ark, which Amazon Games brought to the West in February 2022. So it’s not impossible that news about Throne and Liberty might still come.
