At the G-Star in China, a new MMORPG called Project Arena has been announced. What looks like MapleStory 2 seems to be something entirely different.
What is Project Arena? It is a new MMORPG with a Chibi style, where the anime characters are depicted as particularly cute and childlike.
Is this MapleStory 2?
What does the game remind you of? At first glance, Project Arena looks like MapleStory 2. Not only does the same graphic style come into play, but the block-based world also reminds of Nexon’s MMORPG.
What kind of game is this? Judging by the gameplay video, Project Arena doesn’t seem to have much in common gameplay-wise with MapleStory 2. It looks more like a dungeon crawler where you fight your way through a maze.
The video shows the character moving from room to room. In each room, dangers lie in wait. These include monsters to defeat and traps to avoid. If you conquer a room, rewards in the form of items that presumably upgrade your character await.
Furthermore, PvP is expected to play an important role. According to current information, PvE and PvP are separate game modes.
Crossplay between PC and mobile
What is special about the game? Project Arena supports crossplay. The MMORPG will be released for both PC and smartphones. No matter what device you play on, you will be with players using all platforms.
When will Project Arena be released? The MMORPG has been announced for a release in 2020. However, it will initially be available only in Korea. When an international version will follow is still unclear. Nevertheless, the developers definitely want to release Project Arena in other countries as well.
Who is developing the game? The MMORPG is developed by NGel Games, a relatively new studio. The game utilizes Unreal Engine 4.
What do you think? Do you like Project Arena? Is this something you would play together with your friends?
