The MMORPG Elyon was originally announced as Ascent: Infinite Realm. However, it underwent a major overhaul. This has visibly benefited the game, as gameplay videos from initial tests show.
What kind of game is this? Elyon will be an action MMORPG developed by the Korean studio Bluehole. The company is best known for the titles TERA and PUBG.
In general, the online role-playing game is supposed to be strongly oriented towards Western preferences and therefore avoids excessive grinding while providing understandable quests and quickly available content.
On April 11, the beta for Elyon started in South Korea. Since there is no NDA on this, the first gameplay videos have now been released.
Dynamic battles without tab-targeting
What does the gameplay of Elyon look like? The first videos present a positive picture of the new MMORPG.
While A:IR offered a mix of tab-targeting and action-packed battles, the entire combat in Elyon is dynamic: you must always directly aim at your enemy. Elyon feels like a modern TERA.

Towards the end of the video, you can briefly see gliding. This still comes from the old concept of A:IR. The aerial combat is not to be completely abandoned. However, the focus is supposed to be clearly shifted away from it, as can be seen in the previous gameplay videos.
The 5 classes of Elyon
What does character creation look like? A second video about Elyon by YouTuber HK MAX3 focuses on character creation.
This is detailed and somewhat reminiscent of Aion, although it does not appear that you can create complete monsters as is possible in the MMORPG by NCSoft.
During creation, you have the choice between 4 different playable races and the five classes:
- Warlord – A heavily armored knight.
- Sorceress – A classic mage.
- Mystic – A supporter and healer.
- Assassin – The usual agile rogue.
- Gunslinger – Fights with revolvers at close range and a rifle at long range.

Where can you see more? On YouTube, you can currently find several gameplay videos, although the shown language is currently only Korean.
The YouTuber Sticks, for example, completed a first solo dungeon in about an hour. Also on YouTube, you can find a livestream recording by Kang Nam who played Elyon for over 9 hours.
Elyon is supposed to come to the West in 2020
What about a Western release of Elyon? While the beta in South Korea is already running, we in Europe have to be patient. However, it has been said that a beta for the West is planned for later in 2020.
The publisher of the game is Kakao Games, which also brought us Black Desert. From a content perspective, we are still slightly behind the Korean version, but we usually receive important updates such as classes only a few days or weeks later.
Overall, the images and new information presented about Elyon look positive. Thus, an MMORPG that barely sparked interest at the beginning of 2020 is becoming an exciting new title.
