The new MMORPG Crimson Desert (PC, “Consoles”) will listen to the criticism of Western players regarding Black Desert. The new online role-playing game will focus on PvE content. A release on PS5 and Project Scarlett is also possible.
Who is speaking? At G-Star 2019, Crimson Desert, the new MMORPG from Pearl Abyss was presented. Until now, we mostly had information coming from Korea, where Koreans often have different interests than MMORPG fans in Europe and North America, which is why Koreans rarely ask questions like “Which consoles is it coming to?” or “Are you doing anything with PvE?”
Now, however, there is also information that mainly interests us Westerners. Producer Jason Jung spoke with Wccftech.
More PvE content than Black Desert
What is the focus? Jung is confronted with the fact that we in the West always criticize Black Desert for lacking dungeons and raids. There would be no group PvE in Black Desert.

„We are fully aware of this criticism. As you can see in the videos, we are really focusing on PvE players. We are committed to delivering these experiences.”

The campaign of Crimson Desert can be played in co-op.
In Crimson Desert there are supposed to be massive battles:
- Many players will fight for a fortress
- There will be a lot of trading between players and interactions
- Players should prepare for large battles or trading between companies or gangs
What about PvP? Jung says, much is still under wraps, Crimson Desert will offer the basic systems of Black Desert, but will also place a stronger focus on co-op. They really want to concentrate on PvE.
What about technology? Crimson Desert will use a new engine. All videos that have been shown so far are “In-game footage”.
It is said that ray tracing, HDR, TAA, and SSAO are in the pipeline.
Release of Crimson Desert for PS5, Project Scarlett possible
For which consoles is Crimson Desert coming? Jung says, they don’t know yet which consoles Crimson Desert will be released for:
- Whether for the current generation, PS4 and Xbox One
- or already for the next generation: PS5 and Project Scarlett.
He personally is in favor of a release of Crimson Desert for PS5 and Project Scarlett. They are currently looking into the situation with “Google Stadia”.
Further information about a release of Crimson Desert is still missing – a beta is scheduled for 2020.
