Beyond the Wire refers to the infamous barbed wire that lined the trenches and battlefields of World War I. This devastating conflict serves as the setting of Beyond the Wire. The developers aim to highlight brutal trench combat and mass engagements in this game. Playable factions are expected to include America, France, and the German Empire.
The Highlights of Beyond the Wire
What is special about Beyond the Wire? The main highlight of Beyond the Wire is the large maps, where up to 100 players can eliminate each other. So, 50 players per team will fight for control of the battlefield. Teamwork will be crucial.
Also, contemporary weapons will be used. These include:
- Machine guns
- Repeater rifles
- Melee weapons like bayonets, shovels, and iron clubs
However, the developers also want to take some liberties and consider not just realism but also gameplay when it comes to weapons. “Methodical combat with repeater rifles” will be the core of the game, according to the developers. Casual shooting with strange steam-punk guns like in Battlefield 1 is probably not the developers’ goal.
Then there are the trench battles. Because once you finally reach the enemy trench through the hail of bullets, the fight in tight quarters really begins. Here, melee weapons will be especially important. To make close combat a challenge, a complex system with a special stamina energy is intended to be implemented.
When is the game coming out? Beyond the Wire will soon start a closed alpha. The release itself is not planned before the year 2021, and it may take even longer. The finished version is expected to include more weapons, maps, and factions.
