In two days, we will know exactly when and where the new Battlefield takes place and what to expect. Until then, it is the leakers who are at the center of the reporting, and they had a particularly busy time over the weekend. There are new Battlefield leaks about:

Leaks suggest Battlefield 2042 – Test phase likely in June
What do leaks say about the setting and name? Until the recent leaks, a reboot of the BF series seemed likely, and the name was supposed to just be “Battlefield”. However, after the new information from the weekend, it now seems to be more like “Battlefield 2042”. There are also supposed images of the new BF logo.

The name aligns with previous speculations. According to this, Battlefield 6 will play in a soft science fiction world that offers better technologies but is still comparable to our current technological level.
There was even an official teaser that outlines the setting a bit. The Twitter account of Battlefield sent encrypted messages to content creators. Several of these snippets could be pieced together into a larger message. In the end, the text reads:
Teaser translation: ‘Some of you want to go home – the most human of all instincts. With a heavy heart, I must tell you the truth. You have no home to return to. The question we all must now ask ourselves is: Will we accept our fate? Or will we dare to fight for a better future? No one can force you to fight. What do the latest photos of the gameplay look like? Four clear photos of the new Battlefield have appeared on the photo platform imgur (via imgur.com). The images show vehicles, the user interface, and give a brief impression of a desert map. This is likely to be a “Qatar Sandstorm Map”.
Particularly, the fourth photo impressively shows how the map is being ‘overrun’ by a sandstorm, which could significantly alter the combat situation.
The well-known and often well-informed leaker “Tom Henderson” (formerly LongSensation) has classified the images as authentic (via Twitter). They are said to originate from a pre-alpha build.
When do the test phases start? According to the new leaks, a test phase for large content creators and streamers is likely to start on June 15. An open alpha or open beta could even start in June for all players.
BF6 likely with large mega-maps, but no cross-gen at launch
What is there to know about the attachment system? Leaker Henderson spoke about an attachment system like in Call of Duty. Now there is new information about it. Unlike in CoD, you will likely be able to carry two attachments for your weapons at any time and swap them in the game. In Call of Duty, these attachments cannot simply be swapped while preparing for an attack. You must either go down (multiplayer) or even leave the match entirely (Warzone).
What is the deal with the squad and hero system? As usual, there is expected to be a class system in Battlefield 6 that somewhat restricts your skills and weapon selection. Depending on the class, you will have access to certain equipment. In Battlefield 6, there will also be a “hero” system similar to Battlefield 2 – the heroes are referred to as “Professionals” in BF6. Each squad can take one Professional per class, and this character has additional specialized equipment.
What is there to know about maps and modes? The maps in Battlefield 6 are said to be larger than anything seen before in the Battlefield series. The leaks are not particularly concrete here, but the maps are expected to be really big. Additionally, each map is supposed to feature a “Tornado” or “Twister”. When one of these windy disasters sweeps over the map, even vehicles can be caught up and tossed around.
This likely makes it necessary to adjust the classic conquest mode somewhat. Instead of capturing areas and later losing them to enemies, the maps are divided into sectors. Each sector has 3 – 4 capture points, and if a team captures a sector, the enemy team can no longer capture that sector. Each sector is supposed to be as large as a medium-sized map from Battlefield 3.
The goal is to promote and focus on team play. Players who solo their way across the maps should not benefit from this.
What is there to know about crossplay? There will reportedly be no crossplay between the old consoles (PS4, Xbox One) and the current consoles PS5 and Xbox Series X at launch. The old generation likely cannot keep up. Leaker Henderson even goes further and writes on Twitter:

Whether there will be crossplay between platforms is still open according to the leaks.
