Tower of Fantasy is a new MMORPG that launched in China at the end of 2021. Visually, it is very reminiscent of Genshin Impact and will also be available for PC and mobile. Unlike Genshin, it incorporates many MMORPG elements. The global release has now been officially announced.
What kind of game is this? Tower of Fantasy is an Anime MMORPG developed in Unreal Engine 4. It features a large, open world that you can explore with your character. Visually, it is reminiscent of a mix between Genshin Impact and the highly anticipated MMORPG Blue Protocol.

Dark forces now want to control this energy, but rebels aim to prevent this, destroy the tower, and free the energy for everyone.

Global release in English is planned
What is new? Tower of Fantasy already held the first beta in China in 2020 and celebrated a soft launch there at the end of 2021. For a long time, it was said that the MMORPG would not come to the West. But this has now changed.
On February 11, the developers announced via new accounts on social media that a global release is planned. A Discord server has even been set up (via Discord). A website and promo videos are expected to follow soon.
The release is initially planned in English and Japanese. However, more languages are to follow in the future. Publishing could be taken over by Perfect World Games, which is already mentioned on the official website in China. The company has previously brought games like Perfect World and Jade Dynasty to the West.

How is Tower of Fantasy being received so far? In the Chinese version, players gave Tower of Fantasy only 3.6 out of 5 stars in 79,000 reviews (via TapTap).
Criticism includes:
- The difficult launch, during which there were constant server outages
- The high memory consumption and high requirements for smartphones
- The rather weak hit feedback
- There is a gacha system for the weapons of 1 to 5 stars, which is not very well received because the chances for high-tier weapons are reportedly very low
On the other hand, praise is given for:
