In China, the beta for the new MMORPG Tower of Fantasy has started. The game visually resembles Genshin Impact and focuses on an open game world and plenty of story. Like Genshin Impact, the game is set to be released for both mobile and PC. Currently, there is no mention of a console version.
What kind of game is this? Tower of Fantasy is an MMORPG developed in Unreal Engine 4. It features an anime style and focuses on a large, open world that you can explore with your character.

What makes Tower of Fantasy so interesting? Like Genshin Impact, the new MMORPG from China embraces the anime style. However, the worlds differ somewhat, as Tower of Fantasy has a more futuristic setting than Genshin Impact, which has a more medieval flair.
The movement in the game world with climbing, swimming, and a stamina bar is quite similar. The basic structure of the open world, discovering treasures, and the focus on the story also connect the games, as well as the online requirement.
The biggest difference lies in multiplayer. While the coop in Genshin Impact is often criticized, Tower of Fantasy is a real MMORPG, complete with character creation.
There are also noticeable differences in combat. While Genshin Impact focuses on a few skills and combos between the elements, in Tower of Fantasy you have multiple skills and no switching between characters.
Is the MMORPG coming to us?
The release of Tower of Fantasy in China is planned for 2021. So far, there is no information on whether Tower of Fantasy will be released here in the West.
However, the game is being published by Perfect World, which is also responsible for the publishing of the MMORPG Neverwinter. The company has already released games in Europe and the USA.
Additionally, the success of Genshin Impact should further encourage the developers to bring their MMORPG to the West as well. A release here is therefore possible, although not immediately at the launch in China.
