With Naïca, an exciting MMORPG is in the works, appealing primarily to fans of pixel art. The beta starts in November on Steam. A mobile version is also planned.
What is Naïca? The MMORPG transports you to a colorful fantasy world where beastfolk coexist with humans. You choose one of five races and begin your adventure in the Cerulean Forest, which looks beautiful but is full of dangers.
Together with friends, you explore the forest, fight monsters, and learn that the world is much larger than you thought. Beyond the forest, many more places await where you can experience adventures.
You can customize your character according to your preferences to visually distinguish yourself from other players. Based on a skill system where you can distribute points on skill trees for swords, orbs (magic), and bows, you determine how your hero improves.
You will explore dungeons together, where boss monsters await, and also compete against each other in PvP duels.
An MMORPG in Pixel Style
What’s special about the game? The first thing that stands out is the graphics. Naïca is a 2D MMORPG that adopts a pixel art style. Everything looks very pixelated and reminds one of the MMORPG Dragon Eye, reminiscent of console games from the 16-bit era of SNES. This creates a very interesting and unique atmosphere. The game is particularly aimed at fans of old-school MMORPGs like Tibia or RuneScape.
Equally exciting is the reputation system. In the game world, there are two gods, Naïde and Icaon. By making decisions during your adventures, you gain reputation with one of the gods. This way, it is possible to choose a god or gain reputation with both.
This reputation affects how your hero can develop further in the course of the game. Additionally, your story is meant to feel unique based on the decisions you make.
When does the game start? Naïca launches into open beta on November 10. If you want to join, you can sign up on the official website. Since it is a free-to-play game, you don’t have to pay anything.
There will be no wipe after the end of the open beta. Your character progress will be carried over.
For which platforms is the MMORPG being released? Naïca is being released for PC and mobile devices. Cross-platform play is supported. This means if you play on PC and are then out and about, you can continue playing on your phone.
What about monetization? Naïca, as a free-to-play game, features an in-game shop. It is mainly intended to sell cosmetic items, as character customization plays an important role. However, there are also supposed to be additional character slots and EXP boosters. The developers state that pay-to-win is not a topic. Even the EXP boosters should not have a significant impact on your progress, as you cannot get far without completing quests, even with boosters.
