As part of the Steam Next Fest, the developers of Delta Force have opened their demo to all players. Many players have taken advantage of this offer: four times as many as are currently playing the latest Battlefield.
Why the comparison to Battlefield? Delta Force hits the same note as the Battlefield series as a multiplayer shooter but will be free-to-play. You can expect PvP battles on large maps, various types of vehicles, and destructible buildings.
Delta Force is developed by Team Jade, which is also responsible for Call of Duty: Mobile. The publishing is handled by the TiMi Studio Group, a subsidiary of Tencent Games.
In August 2024, there was already a closed alpha, and now a demo accessible to all players has followed for the Steam Next Fest. What to expect from it is shown by the developers in a new trailer:
What is currently playable? The demo includes two game modes, Havoc Warfare and Hazard Operations. The announced single-player campaign is not included in the demo.
Havoc Warfare is a classic multiplayer mode where two teams of 32 players each compete on a large map. In this mode, you also have access to tanks, helicopters, boats, and other vehicles.
Hazard Operations is an extraction mode where you are in small teams of up to three players. There, you fight other teams for loot, especially MandelBricks – special containers that may contain rare items.
More players in the demo than in Battlefield 2042
How is Delta Force performing so far? According to the numbers on SteamDB, the game’s demo on Steam had nearly 40,000 concurrent players in the last 24 hours (as of October 16, 12:10 PM). In comparison, Battlefield 2042, the latest installment in the Battlefield series, had just under 10,000. In the list of most wished-for games on Steam, Delta Force ranks 5th according to SteamDB.
On Reddit, the current sentiment towards the game is rather negative. On r/DeltaForceGlobal, many players complain that they are mostly fighting against overly strong bots. Many also seem to have issues with the game’s performance, while others cannot start it at all.
How long is the demo playable? On Steam, you can try Delta Force for free until October 21, 2024.
Whether Delta Force will become the “Battlefield killer” that some talk about will also depend on the next Battlefield. While it has not been officially announced yet, according to the studio head, they plan to return to the best parts of the series.
