Project V is a new co-op game by former employees of Riot Games (LoL, Valorant). They aim to develop a game that blends MOBAs with PvE content and dungeons. The first alpha is set to start in March.
What kind of game is this? In Project V, you’ll participate in a multiplayer online game where you must complete dungeons and raids with other players, similar to an MMORPG. The focus is on teamwork, but Project V aims to incorporate the “skill level” of a MOBA. They themselves call the genre MOCO (Multiplayer Online Coop).
You choose one of several heroes before starting, who must be strategically utilized. Each instance run is meant to provide a new challenge, and the replay value is intended to be “endless.” However, how exactly this will look has not been disclosed. Furthermore, PvP is expected to play a role, though the details are still unclear.
Nonetheless, the developers emphasize that players who enjoy competitive gameplay will definitely find something to their liking.
Currently, there is neither gameplay footage nor screenshots of the final game. So far, there is only a small “Behind the Scenes” video about the development studio and life in Dublin:
Game is still early in development, first pre-alpha is starting soon
What is the current status of Project V? The game is still early in development and was only announced at the end of 2020. However, the first pre-alpha tests are set to begin soon.
The first test is scheduled for March 5th. You can already sign up on the official website (via Vela). Regular pre-alpha weekends are expected to follow.
Who is behind the game? Vela Games is a new development studio founded in 2017 by former developers from Riot Games.
CEO Travis George was the Product Lead for League of Legends from 2008 to 2017. Their proximity to the MOBA genre is evident not only in the design idea but also in the artwork of Project V.
According to their statement, the development team aims to take elements from fans’ favorite games and combine them into something new and fun. We might learn how the MOBA integrates with the dungeons by early March.
In June 2021, the studio reported that they had found investors who would support them with 17.3 million dollars. Among them is Ubisoft. Currently, over 25 employees are involved in the development.
