What is GRIT? GRIT is a free Battle Royale in a Western style. 100 players compete in a mix of Fortnite, Warzone, and Red Dead Redemption.
As usual, the player who remains last wins, while the map shrinks due to a sandstorm. The game is played in third-person perspective in the Wild West, featuring deserts, ice tracks, and saloons.
GRIT is set to offer the following content:
- Over 20 different firearms that fit the setting
- Playing cards as perks
- Cowboy gear
- Horses as mounts that you can personalize and fight from
- Solo, Duo, and Squad modes
- A 1v1 duel function to fight your way back to life, similar to the Gulag in Warzone
- The Wilhelm Scream with every death
It is also noticeable that the trajectory of the bullets differs from other titles of this genre. Moving targets are harder to hit. Moreover, cover plays an important role.
The Battle Royale was announced shortly before Easter and is set to enter Early Access in spring. The full release is expected to take place in September.

How are the reactions? In the first test, GRIT received mixed responses. Underneath the video from PC Gamer, numerous negative comments have accumulated, primarily focusing on the graphics and general gameplay:
- Stephen Pollard writes: “Hmm, it’s too early to have a definitive opinion, but phew, it still looks very rough and unfinished.”
- Rekkinator also criticizes the game’s aesthetics: “It looks like a game developed 10 years ago.”
- MondVogel fears that the game lacks a certain fun factor: “I understand the cover and caution and all that. But it’s just not enjoyable compared to Apex Legends, where I can run and glide and everything revolves around movement.”
However, there are also commentators who see hope in the game. Especially due to the horses, the somewhat adjusted combat system, and the setting in the Wild West, it could find its niche. They also hope for improvements in the game when GRIT enters Early Access.
Can you play GRIT now? Not immediately, as the first playtest for the Battle Royale has concluded. However, you can register for a beta. You only need to request access on the Steam page of the game.
