Tower of Fantasy is a new MMORPG that will be released for PC and mobile. Visually, it somewhat resembles a mix of Genshin Impact and the highly anticipated Blue Protocol. The game is set to launch in the West in 2022 and will hold a closed beta beforehand, starting in April.
What kind of beta is this? The closed beta of Tower of Fantasy will take place only in the USA, Canada, the UK, and Germany. It starts on April 19, although there is currently no specific time.
However, all content of the MMORPG is expected to be playable in the beta. It is currently unclear whether there will be a German localization and if this will be included in the beta. The publisher in the West will be Perfect World, which is also responsible for Star Trek Online and Neverwinter in the West, both of which at least provide German text.
How do you get into the beta? The official sign-up for the beta has ended a few days ago. We reported on this at the beginning of March.

What kind of game is it? Tower of Fantasy is an Anime MMORPG. It will be free-to-play and powered by Unreal Engine 4.
In the game, you explore a completely open game world with your character, apart from the dungeons. You can design this character to your liking. The game does not rely on fixed classes; instead, the weapon and armor determine the playstyle.

The developers of Tower of Fantasy repeatedly highlight their NPC characters, all of whom are supposed to have unique personalities. On the Twitter account, you can already find several presentations of these NPCs, where birth dates, character traits, and appearances are discussed.
When does the game come out? Tower of Fantasy was released in China at the end of 2021 and is expected to launch for us in 2022. As of now, there is still no specific release date.

How is Tower of Fantasy being received so far? In the Chinese version, players rated Tower of Fantasy at only 3.6 out of 5 stars from 79,000 reviews (via TapTap). However, the ratings in the last 7 days showed an average of 4.2 stars, which is somewhat higher.
Criticism includes:
- The difficult start during which there were constant server outages.
- The high memory consumption and high requirements for smartphones.
- The rather weak hit feedback.
- There is a gacha system for the weapons of 1 to 5 stars, which is not well received because the chances for high-tier weapons are said to be very low.
On the other hand, praise has been given for:
- The story and atmosphere of the game.
- The ability to change and dye equipment items.
- Many endgame contents.
- Regular updates and many bug fixes that have been recently deployed.
