Skull and Bones was released just over two months ago but faced backlash at launch. Now, the price of the game is being lowered.
What kind of game is it? Skull and Bones officially launched on February 16, with early access three days earlier. It is an open-world game set in a pirate theme, but primarily takes place at sea.
For most of the game, you take control of a ship, which you sail across the seas and engage in naval battles against other seafarers. Over time, you expand and upgrade your ship further, for example, by equipping it with stronger weapons.
How did the launch go? Skull and Bones was long awaited by players, especially since the game’s release was delayed multiple times during development. Additionally, there were confident claims made, such as that Skull and Bones is a “AAAA game“
However, there was quite a bit of criticism from the player base at the launch of the game. For instance, it was noted that the game lacked a deeper single-player story, as highlighted by Maurice Weber, but other content was also missed. On Metacritic, the game currently holds a score of 58 (PC), 59 (PS5), and 63 (Xbox Series X). However, there are indeed fans who are enjoying the game and the seafaring experience.
Nonetheless, overall the game reportedly fell short of expectations in terms of player numbers, which was also attributed to the high price of the game, it was stated at the end of February.
Regarding the price, Ubisoft is now making adjustments, at least in part.
How the price is changing for Skull and Bones
How is the price changing? As reported by the official “Skull and Bones” channel on “X.com”, the game is currently reduced by 50%. But as it stands, this applies only to the PC version if purchased in the Ubisoft Store.
- The base game is reduced from 59.99 to 29.99 Euros
- The premium edition is reduced from 89.99 to 44.99 Euros
- The deluxe edition remains at 74.99. Therefore, the larger premium edition is the better deal.
In the Xbox and PlayStation stores, no reductions are currently visible. It is unclear whether this will change. It is also unclear how long the reduction on PC will last.
