We asked you if you have spent any money on the free co-op RPG Genshin Impact. Here are your answers.
What was it about? The popular co-op RPG Genshin Impact can be played for free by anyone. It is currently very popular and some players can’t believe that it is free.
However, it is financed through gacha mechanics and microtransactions. Therefore, we asked you if you have invested any money in Genshin Impact.
Here are your answers.
These are the numbers: A total of 1,423 MeinMMO readers participated in the survey. Each of you could only vote once. The distribution of votes is as follows:
- No, not at all – 59.66 % (849 votes)
- Yes, but no more than 10 € – 11.24 % (160 votes)
- Between 10 € and 25 € – 8.85 % (126 votes)
- Between 25 € and 50 € – 5.06 % (72 votes)
- Between 50 € and 100 € – 7.17 % (102 votes)
- More than 100 € – 8.01 % (114 votes)
Almost 60 % of you have not spent a single cent in Genshin Impact according to our survey. The free-to-play game offers you enough fun that you don’t feel pressured to invest money.
About 11.24 % of you have spent money, but not more than 10 €. In the comments, many readers told us that they bought the 30-day boost of the Moon’s Blessing for example for 5.49 €. It gives a one-time bonus of 300 Creation Crystals and provides 90 Original Resin daily, which is needed for summons of new characters.
So far I have only purchased the Moon’s Blessing for 6€. The Battle Pass is not worth it for me. Gacha is completely out of the question.

Among those who spent between 10 € and 25 €, 8.85 % of you were willing to pay the money. In total, more than 80 % of you have not spent more than 25 € on Genshin Impact.
The smallest group of readers, only 5.06%, has paid between 25 € and 50 €. However, it goes up slightly again afterward. 7.17 % of you have spent between 50 € and 100 € on Genshin Impact.
With 8.01 %, approximately every twelfth MeinMMO reader has spent more than 100 € on the game. Thus, the spending of this reader group is above the average price of a full-fledged AAA game.

This is interesting: The MeinMMO survey reveals a tendency that is common for gacha games like Genshin Impact: A large portion of players spends very little money, but there is a smaller group that is willing to spend a lot of money.
In the context of gacha games, players who spend a lot are often referred to as “whales”. According to Venturebeat, the definition of a whale can vary from game to game.
While in larger games a whale might need to spend around 100 $ a month, it is sufficient in smaller Facebook games to spend 25 $ per month. This means that just because someone has already invested over 100 € in Genshin Impact, it doesn’t necessarily make them a “whale”.
Genshin Impact seems worth the money
This was interesting: Although almost 60 % of players in the survey have not spent any money on Genshin Impact yet, most of them at least purchased the Moon’s Blessing for 5.49 €. You shared your reasons with us regarding why you have paid for Genshin Impact or not.
Users who have already spent a certain amount on the game justified their opinion with the high quality of Genshin Impact and the fun they received.
There was a willingness expressed to support the developer miHoYo because they have done a good job and provided many hours of entertainment.
Such games usually cost between 40 € and 50 €, so I was willing to invest a little money to support the developers and the game.

I have only purchased the Moon’s Blessing so far and would do it again. I might buy the Season Pass if I progress far enough, but I’m not sure. I find the game so damn good that I’m happy to invest a euro or two.

It was also interesting that some of you have not yet spent any money in Genshin Impact but would like to. They just can’t because the game only offers credit card as a payment option on certain platforms. There are no options for PayPal or GiroPay users:
If there was something like GiroPay, I would definitely leave 20 €. Simply because the game is awesome and totally worth it.

Those were the other opinions: However, there were also comments that opposed excessive spending in Genshin Impact. The reasons for this lie in the gacha system of the game, which with its very low success chances is supposed to entice players to invest more and more money.
MeinMMO reader Harry Dresden, who has only gotten the Moon’s Blessing so far, wrote, for example:
Until the current system is revised, I will not spend any money on wishes. The chances of getting the character you want are practically zero.
A user in the Chinese forum described it this way: “The chance of getting a 5-star character is still twice as high as if your car window suddenly breaks.”

[…] No, I haven’t spent any money so far and I don’t intend to. They will release new characters every few months anyway, so I won’t get caught up in that spiral […]

It was also warned in the comments that currently strong characters could get nerfed with upcoming updates and that one would have wasted their money.
In general, however, Genshin Impact seems to provide enough value for the players who have spent money on it, making their expenditures worthwhile.
When the first update with new content and possible nerfs will come, you can find out in our article.
