The new game from Blizzard will be a mobile game. Therefore, we want to know from you if you will give Diablo: Immortal a chance.
Almost a week has passed since Blizzard presented its next big title at BlizzCon: a mobile game called Diablo Immortal.
The game is being developed in cooperation with NetEase and visually resembles many other action games on mobile.
The announcement of Diablo: Immortal faced strong resistance from fans, who were expecting a completely different game, and also resulted in numerous negative comments on YouTube. The cinematic has more than 90% negative ratings and is likely Blizzard’s least popular video ever.
However, there are also fans who are looking forward to it and would like to play a mobile Diablo when they are on the go. For them, the announcement was a win, and there were certainly interested and enthusiastic fans at the BlizzCon “Q&A Panel”.
A large portion of players, however, want to wait and see how Blizzard and NetEase will implement the game and especially how the monetization will proceed.
What the editorial team thinks about Diablo: Immortal
Diablo: Immortal is also being hotly debated in our editorial team, and opinions are sharply divided.
Cortyn says: Although I likely have the option to play Diablo: Immortal on a smartphone like most people these days, I will not do so. I don’t like the “fiddling around” on a small display at all. When I play an RPG, even if it is just a “hack & slay action RPG,” I want to be able to immerse myself in the world. I simply cannot achieve that on a smartphone.
Moreover, NetEase leaves a rather unpleasant taste for me, and I cannot comprehend why Blizzard is outsourcing “its baby” to others. That all holds me back a lot. While I do not think Diablo: Immortal will be as horrible as it is being foretold, I also do not think it will be good enough to convince me.
Robert says: I cannot understand the extent of the reactions. Blizzard has always emphasized that they are working on more Diablo projects. This includes Diablo 4, which will come sooner or later. I do not see Diablo Immortal merely as a stopgap to bridge the waiting time for the next big release, but also as an opportunity to reach new audiences.
One thing is certain: Diablo Immortal will attract players who have never played a Diablo title. Let’s welcome them!
I am concerned about the typical pay-to-win mechanics and microtransactions common in mobile titles. I hope Blizzard is aware of this responsibility and will create a player experience that positively distinguishes itself from other mobile games.
But now let’s turn to you! We want to know if you will give Diablo: Immortal a chance or if you will reject the game out of principle. You can cast your vote (only one vote).
If you want to elaborate on your answer, please use the comments and discuss actively.
