During the “Spring Update Reveal” on May 10, developer Capcom revealed new information about the upcoming Iceborne DLC for Monster Hunter World. Here you will find all the new information.
When will Iceborne be released? The major DLC for MHW is set to be released on September 6 for PS4 and Xbox One. For PC, the developers are aiming to have Iceborne ready by Winter 2019.
As part of the “Spring Update Reveal,” Capcom also released a new trailer, showcased gameplay, and discussed the new monsters.
But here is the trailer first:
New Map, New Monsters, New Moves
This is all included in the DLC: That Iceborne will be a major expansion has been clear since the first announcement. However, the developers emphasize once again how extensive the DLC will be. You can expect:
- New Monsters: In addition to many smaller creatures, 4 large, completely new monsters have been announced for Iceborne so far. One of them is Velkhana, the new Elder Dragon. However, many more, including old favorites like Nargacuga, are making a return.
- New Equipment: With new monsters come new loot. You will again be able to craft weapons and equipment from the parts of the monsters.
- New Area: The Frostfang Heights is the new area in Iceborne. According to the developers, it will be the largest map that has ever existed for MHW.
- A New Story: You will explore the new area over the course of the story and unlock more sections of it. It’s all about exploration and discovery.
- New Moves: The developers are adding new movement options for players in Iceborne. You can fire all the ammunition from your slinger with a charged shot or swing onto monsters with the grappling hook.
- New Quest Rank: With Iceborne, there is also a new quest rank, the “Master Rank.” Therefore, even tougher quests await you.
What are the requirements to play Iceborne? You must own the main game of MHW and complete the story. Because Iceborne picks up directly from it.

What versions are available? Iceborne will either be sold as a standalone DLC or in the new Master Edition as a complete package with Monster Hunter World.
