What are Barioth’s weaknesses?
What spots should I attack? The weak points of Barioth are his head, his front legs, and the tail. You should focus your attacks on these spots. The head and front legs can also be broken and the tail can be severed.

How do I prepare optimally?
The A and O of a good hunter is preparation. Before you can dive into battle, you need to equip yourself first. Pack your item set, prepare armor and weapons.
Additionally, you should always use the canteen. Eating grants you useful Felyne skills, such as the Felyne Insurance, allowing you to die once more. You also gain health and stamina. Furthermore, you can also get attack and defense boosts, such as elemental resistance.
What items should I carry?
Pack hot drinks. To combat the cold in the Frostfang Horizon, you must always consume hot drinks. They prevent your stamina from constantly decreasing.
Demon drugs and armor skins are your friends. Besides hot drinks, you should also stock up on demon drugs and armor skins. These potions boost your attack and defense.
Have flash pods on hand. With flash pods, you can blind monsters and prevent them from attacking. You can take down Barioth from the air and avoid jump attacks.
Keep Nullberries ready. If you don’t have 20 ice resistance, pack Nullberries. You can use them to cure the iceblight. Additionally, make sure to have enough Mega Potions. Also pack some Honey and regular potions for crafting purposes.
You should also carry a teleport item. With such a teleport, you can fly back to your camp anytime, including during battle. There you can restock on potions or ammunition.
Helpful items can also be poison, paralysis, or sleep knives. With these useful throwing tools, you can inflict the respective status effect on Barioth.
Pack dung pods. If you want to avoid contact with other monsters, pack dung pods. These are made from monster dung and scare off monsters when thrown – wonderfully disgusting, right?
Don’t forget traps and tranquilizer bombs. If you want to save yourself in the final phase of the battle, bring trapping tools. Usually, you need a shock trap or pitfall trap and two tranquilizer bombs for this.
What equipment is suitable against Barioth?
These skills can be helpful. Since Barioth hits you with ice attacks, you should protect yourself with ice defense. For this, armor like the Banbaro set is suitable. Additionally, earplugs on the armor would help against his roar.
These weapons are recommended. You should have a fire or thunder weapon at hand. We do not want to make weapon recommendations, as the 14 weapons in Monster Hunter World are a matter of taste. But keep in mind, Barioth is very nimble. It can be beneficial to engage him as a ranged fighter or with agile weapons like dual blades.
These mantles can protect you. Additionally, tools like the Lifesaver mantle can protect you from fatal hits. You can also take the Guard mantle, which prevents stunning, knockbacks, monster roars, and reduces the damage taken.
Another option is the Evade mantle. With this tool, you gain longer invulnerability when dodging. If you dodge at the last moment, you even receive increased attack.

What attacks does Barioth have?
Barioth is a very fast monster. He will primarily attack you with his ice breath and tail. He has various options available:
- Ice Breath as a tornado. Barioth will create an ice tornado with his breath that remains for a short time. Contact deals substantial damage, so keep your distance.
- Ice Breath as a projectile. Barioth can spit his ice breath like a projectile. Your best rescue is to dodge.
- Tail attacks. Barioth often uses his tail as a weapon, especially against melee fighters. You should always watch him closely and be on guard not to get hit.
- Leap attacks. The nimble Barioth frequently attacks from the leap, so stay alert. Avoid being near walls, as he likes to jump off them and land behind you.
- Rage. When Barioth becomes enraged, his eyes glow, and he jumps around more. His speed and damage increase, so take extra caution.
Tips for fighting Barioth
You should not fight in tight spaces. Barioth is fast, jumps around a lot, and has a large reach, especially with his ice breath. Thus, you should avoid tight spaces and allow yourself room to dodge. This is also to prevent him from jumping against walls and thus behind you.
Use your environment. If you get the chance, use the environment around you. For example, you can drop icicles from the ceiling in the ice cave.
Aim for the front legs. In the fight against Barioth, you should target his front legs. If you manage to break them, he loses a lot of mobility. Also, the chance of him staying down for a while after fatal attacks increases.
Flash when he leaps. When Barioth prepares to jump, you can prevent this attack with a flash pod. This ammunition is crafted from flash bugs.
Use the grappling hook wisely. The grappling hook is a great new tool in the fight against monsters. However, with the nimble Barioth, it often happens that he catches you in the middle of its use. So be cautious when using your grappling hook and wait for the right moment.
Rejoice in turf wars, but stay away from them. If another monster appears, rejoice. The ensuing turf war will cost Barioth a lot of health. However, you don’t want to get caught in between, so keep your distance.
Throw dung pods at annoying monsters. If you ever want to get rid of another monster, you can do so with dung pods. Just throw this ammunition at the monster. Usually, it will leave you alone, or your hunted monster will continue to run away.
What to consider in the final phase?
When Barioth is near his end, he will have skulls above his icon on the minimap. Additionally, his pulse at the bottom of the image will be very shallow.
He usually limps away at that point. Keep some distance while doing this. If you do, he will lay down to sleep, and you can easily catch him. You just need to throw two tranquilizer bombs on him and place a trap under him. The order doesn’t matter, although it is more relaxed to throw the bombs first.
