There will be a main story in Monster Hunter Wilds again, which you can follow while hunting monsters one after another. It’s even more fun with friends. However, this isn’t so easy, as there are a few hurdles.
Monster Hunter Wilds can be played with up to 3 other hunters simultaneously, just like its predecessor Monster Hunter World. This way, you can experience all hunts together and stand your ground as a group against the huge monsters.
Most of the monsters are introduced sequentially within the story and presented with exciting cutscenes. Therefore, they must be unlocked gradually. And that’s where the biggest catch lies if you want to play the story together with your friends.
Playing the story in coop
First watch the sequences, then invite
Why is it not so easy to play the story in multiplayer? The game allows you to form a group before starting a quest, but once you embark on the quest, you will be separated at first.
You must find the monster and watch the cutscene before you can invite each other back and join the quest. All players must finish the sequence first. Only then can you complete the hunt together. If additional sequences come afterward, your group will be separated again, and the game will restart at the next story quest.
Connection groups make it easier
How can I best invite my friends? If you want to play with your friends, you need to invite them to your group. This is best done through connection groups, as it doesn’t matter whether you are currently in the same lobby or not. This way, you stay together after returning from a quest, making it easier to complete consecutive quests together.
When you are in a connection group, it will always be automatically shown to you when you can join a friend’s quest.

There are also other ways to play Monster Hunter Wilds with your friends. Unfortunately, regarding the story, there is currently no other way than to watch the cutscenes and then invite friends to your own quest when everyone is finished with it.
Story coop with different progress
Can I also play the story with my friends if one of us is further along? Yes, this is possible. In this case, the one whose story you want to continue should start the respective quest and invite all others.
If you are far apart in the story quests, you should pay attention to wearing armor appropriate to your rank – those who are further along should downgrade their equipment a bit and revert to armor and weapons from the earlier monsters. Unless you want to give your behind schedule friends an advantage and take down the enemies faster so they can catch up.
