After the main quest of Monster Hunter Wilds, an NPC in the Wind Plains will assign you the task of finding a Sandwusel. Although it is a small creature, you will have trouble catching it. We will show you the location and the best strategy for the catch.
Who wants to have the Sandwusel? In the Base Camp of the Wind Plains, you will find the NPC “Samin” in the large tent who will introduce you to the quest “Samin’s Special Research Report”.
You need to catch a Sandwusel in the desert, but you will have to figure out the location and a tactic yourself – you also need the creature for the trophy “Caught a shooting star!”.
Since this little guy is very agile and rare, we will show you the most important information that should simplify your hunt.
Finding and Catching the Sandwusel
Where do I find the Sandwusel?
- You can find the Sandwusel in the Wind Plains in the large desert with plenty of space to run around.
- The best area is Area 13: Oasis.
- It is important that the Sandwusel only spawns at night and during fullness, but it is never guaranteed either.
- Use the resting function in your field or base camp to adjust the time of day – the feature costs you 300 guild points.
Tip for the hunt: If the Sandwusel does not spawn despite being night and full, try using the evening as your time and wait until night falls. It could be that directly setting the night prevents the creature from spawning.
How do I catch the Sandwusel?
- To catch the Sandwusel, you need the catching net, but it is not that simple as the creature runs away quickly from you.
- You can chase the Sandwusel with your Saikrii and try to catch it while running, but that can be quite difficult.
- We recommend using screamer bombs to temporarily incapacitate the creature. The ghillie mantle can also be helpful as it hides you.

If the Wusel is standing still, you just need to unpack your catching net and shoot at the creature to catch it. Along with the catch, you will also receive the achievement “Caught a shooting star!”.
