An NPC in Monster Hunter Wilds sends you on a quest to hunt for a delicacy, the Pregnant Mudfish. We will show you how to find and catch it.
Why is the Pregnant Mudfish important? Through your fishing partner “Kanya”, you will receive the quest “Fishing for Aroma” at the Base Camp of the Crimson Forest.
You need to catch a Pregnant Mudfish to obtain its precious roe and complete the quest, but, even though it can be found in various places, it is rarely seen.
Pregnant Mudfish: Locations and Strategy
How do I find the Pregnant Mudfish?
- This special fish can be caught in all biomes of Monster Hunter Wilds. The location is not the key factor, but the time when you can catch this fish.
- The Mudfish only appears during Bounty and Morning or Night.
- If this doesn’t apply, you can use the “Rest” function in your tent to switch to Bounty and Morning or Night.
- This costs 300 Guild Points.
You can identify the Pregnant Mudfish by its orange color and long, slender appearance. It looks exactly like the Green Mudfish, except that the Pregnant one has two barbels on its mouth.
Where can I find the Pregnant Mudfish? Anywhere there are lakes or water. We would recommend two locations:
- The Base Camp in the Crimson Forest, where Kanya is fishing
- In the Windy Fields in Area 13 by the Oasis

How do I best catch the Pregnant Mudfish?
- To catch the fish, you should equip the Emerald Quivering Bait, which you obtain from further quests given by Kanya.
- Now go to a fishing spot, unpack your rod, and start fishing.
- Try to place your bait in front of the fish. It’s important to slowly reel in the bait and play with it in front of the fish, otherwise it won’t bite.
- If the fish doesn’t bite, feel free to reel in the bait and throw it back out.
- Also, note that for the quest you must catch the fish with your rod; your net does not count.

How do I farm the Pregnant Mudfish? Set the same parameters of Bounty and Morning or Night and travel to your fishing area. Now look at the water. If you don’t see any of these fish, you can travel to another habitat and then return to your fishing area – this resets the fish spawns.
If you don’t see any fish in the water upon your return, feel free to unpack your fishing rod. This speeds up the spawn process in the water. Besides the Pregnant Mudfish, you must also catch Wapponit. We will show you everything about their location: Monster Hunter Wilds: Finding and fishing Wapponit – How to farm them
