WildStar (June 3, 2014 – November 28, 2018)
What was WildStar? WildStar is the biggest loss of 2018, as it was one of the last major western MMORPG developments. It was a colorful sci-fi game that had one of the best combat systems in the genre. You had to be alert and have good reflexes to master the action fights and succeed in the extremely challenging raids.
Why it failed: WildStar initially overestimated the willingness of players to dive into extremely tough 40-man raids. Then came a longer content drought after release, despite contrary promises, which frightened away many players.
Additionally, the studio Carbine was reportedly not very efficiently organized and made many mistakes. In any case, the number of players decreased year by year, and a switch to free-to-play helped little after a brief uptick.
How long did the game last? WildStar lasted long and was alive from June 3, 2014, to November 28, 2018. Thus, it was almost five years old before the plug was finally pulled.
This is what remains positively in memory: WildStar had an extremely large number of cool aspects. Listing them all would exceed the scope of this article, but especially the housing was amazing. You could basically build anything you wanted and assemble houses from countless individual parts.
In addition, there was the wonderfully dynamic combat system that you had to master perfectly for the tough instances. When you defeated one of the extremely challenging bosses, the sense of achievement was immense.
The humor was also not lacking, and WildStar brought some really crazy characters into the game, like the nasty hamsters called Chua or the constantly drinking stone people of the Granok.
