The MMORPG classics Aion and Blade & Soul from Asia finally get successors. But they are not the games that fans had hoped for.
Two long-awaited sequels as Mobile Games
What was announced? Ahead of the Chinese game fair G-Star, NC Soft announced the MMORPGs Aion 2 and Blade & Soul 2. Both titles are mobile MMOs.
What we already know about Aion 2: The big presentation will take place at G-Star. Nevertheless, NC Soft has already revealed some details about the game.
- The story takes place 900 years before Aion
- The two factions Elyos and Asmodian do not exist yet
- Interdimensional rifts allow for PvP battles between different servers
- Invasion and defense are important game elements
- Aion 2 will have no class restrictions. Anyone can use any item
- The combat system is supposed to differ completely from that of the predecessor
- Gliding through the air will become even more important, making fights three-dimensional
- According to the developers, Aion 2 will offer possibilities that the team had wished for in the first part
What we know about Blade & Soul 2: There were also some interesting information about Blade & Soul 2 ahead of G-Star.
- It is a sequel set far in the future
- You will encounter new NPCs
- The NPCs are supposed to be part of the ecosystem, react to you, and influence the game
- Depending on how you interact with the NPCs, you will receive different quests
- The monsters are supposed to be significantly smarter than in the predecessor
- The new combat system relies on the right combination of skills
- There are no more factions
The trend is towards Mobile MMOs
When will there be more information? At G-Star, which takes place from November 15 to 17, we will probably learn more about the two new MMOs. Currently, for example, there is still no information regarding release dates, alpha, or beta.
Mobile MMOs are becoming increasingly important: As seen with Aion 2 and also Blade & Soul 2, there is no way around mobile gaming, at least in South Korea. Especially in Asia, this market is so large and so successful that even the continuation of two popular PC MMOs is now being released for mobile devices.
Even the announcement of Diablo Immortal has shown how important the mobile games market is. The trend is increasingly towards playing on smartphones. And not just for casual games, but also for complex MMOs.
