It is time for our MeinMMO format “MMORPG news in two minutes.” We summarize the most important news about the best genre in the world. Look forward to lots of info on WoW housing, a new continent for Lost Ark, a sign of life from Rift, and much more.
The highlights of the week:
- World of Warcraft is getting housing, which was one of the biggest news for MMORPGs in recent years. Now first players outside of Blizzard have been able to take a look at the feature and are excited.
- The developers of WoW have borrowed a bit from other MMOs for housing. They openly admit: WildStar was an inspiration.
- The Disturbing Visions of World of Warcraft are back. We show you what’s new and how you can benefit from all the bonuses. Be sure to keep in mind that you should avoid a companion NPC. We also have a guide for the Wheel of the Devil’s Hunter for you.
- Next Tuesday, players of Final Fantasy XIV can finally get started in Kreszentia. All about the new field operation, the Phantom Jobs, and the new relic weapons can be found in this overview.
- For Final Fantasy XI, the celebrations for the 23rd anniversary are coming up (via playonline.com). In an interview about the milestone, producer and director Yoji Fujito revealed that they actually planned to shut down the MMORPG service in 2024 and transition to a pure maintenance mode. Thanks to the continued support of the fans, that did not happen (via automaton-media.com).
What else has happened? Since the Kickstarter boom in the 2010s, there have been a number of developers who wanted to finance their MMO(RPG) through crowdfunding. But which games have actually been released? MeinMMO has done the accounting after 13 years and drawn a frustrating balance.
Ashes of Creation is the most promising MMORPG that has gone through Kickstarter:
The fate of WoW addons
This is what happened with the big MMORPGs:

- A player from World of Warcraft finally managed to master an achievement after 9 years that others have surely completed multiple times. The special thing in this case is that the Azeroth hero can only use both hands to a very limited extent.
- Some still dream of it, others already live it – spending retirement in World of Warcraft. An older lady sets an example and talks about it while getting a haircut.
- The probably rarest success in World of Warcraft is so confusing, that even the owners do not know why they have it.
- If you want to have the perfect mount for your transmog set in WoW, you need to put in some effort. However, you should first check whether the mount meets all requirements – as this community story shows.
