On October 15, 2022, Embers Adrift celebrated its release and now the first anniversary is approaching. Accordingly, it will be completely Free2Play for three weeks. The MMORPG focuses entirely on PvE and adventures with other players. We reveal what to expect and what has happened in the first year.
What kind of game is this? Embers Adrift is an MMORPG where you experience a real adventure and have to collaborate with other players. Even in the starting area, there are monsters that can only be defeated in a group. You can venture out alone, but the real highlight is the cooperation with others.
- The game relies on a Holy Trinity of Tank, Healer, and DPS.
- During character creation, you can choose the class Defender, Striker, or Supporter. At level 6, you can then choose a second specialization from the same 3 types. This provides a total of 9 different combinations.
- Embers Adrift does not include larger quest hubs and boring farming tasks. All quests in the game tell a story and provide useful rewards.
- There are dungeons, raids, and world bosses for which you need to actively find players via chat or your own guild.
- The MMORPG uses various elements intended to increase immersion, including the absence of a mini-map, unnecessary tooltips, and a reduced interface.
- However, the combat system is very slow and offers little dynamism. There, in the graphics and in the significant time investment, one senses that the title is aimed more at a niche.
What’s new now? From October 13 to November 5, everyone can play Embers Adrift completely for free – with all the bonuses that the subscription offers.
Actually, you need a game version that costs 39.99 dollars. Additionally, there’s a subscription for 9.99 dollars per month, which gives you extra character slots, more emotes, and a portable crafting station. However, even these effects will be unlocked for you in the three weeks.
Additionally, small events and tournaments will take place to attract new players to the community. So it’s the perfect moment to dive into the MMORPG.
Welcome party, hide and seek, and the naked race
What does Embers Adrift offer for the anniversary? Besides the sale, the developers have come up with some small events that they want to experience together with the community:
- On October 13, a welcome party will take place from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM directly in the starting area.
- On October 14, a naked race will take place from the Wall to the Highland Hills from 9:00 PM to 11:00 PM.
- On October 15, starting from 6:00 PM, there will be a dice duel tournament followed by a fireworks display with a lottery and role-playing.
Furthermore, the developers want to be strongly present in the game themselves and will occasionally start hide and seek or special monster invasions. The events will also be accompanied by streamers from the community.
New zones, dungeons, and game systems
What has happened in Embers Adrift since the release? A lot. The major highlights are 4 completely new areas, 5 dungeons, and 36 new quest lines.
Moreover, several general features were introduced to enhance the gaming experience. These include a first-person camera, an improved teleport system, and a journal that records exactly how many enemies you have defeated of each mob type.
Despite these changes, it remains, at its core, a game for hardcore fans of old-school MMORPGs. If you didn’t like the game at launch, you will still have difficulties now. However, for those who haven’t tried it yet, the coming three weeks should be taken advantage of.
