A new anime online role-playing game, Tower of Fantasy, has been announced, which looks stunning and focuses heavily on story. It will be released for PC, but only in China for now.
What is Tower of Fantasy about? The story takes you to a distant future on the planet Ada. Humans have colonized the world and built a magical tower with the help of a comet to tap into the planet’s primordial energy. However, a catastrophe struck that nearly wiped out civilization.
Dark forces now want to control this energy, but rebels seek to prevent this, destroy the tower, and free the energy for all.
An Anime to Play Along
What kind of game is this? It is currently a bit unclear whether Tower of Fantasy will be an MMORPG or a cooperative action RPG. It is being developed with the Unreal Engine 4 and will be released for PC and mobile devices.
Tower of Fantasy is very story-driven and tells its story similarly to the MMORPG Blue Protocol in anime style. The graphics are dreamily beautiful, as if you were playing an anime.
You explore a large, open game world filled with many challenges. NPCs provide you with quests, and in the wilderness as well as in dungeons, you fight in action-packed real-time battles against monsters.
What is special about the game? Tower of Fantasy really aims to be a playable anime. The developers from Hotta Studio place great importance on the development of NPCs. These are supposed to have interesting personalities, which supports the story.
Additionally, there’s the exploration of a vast world where you can climb rock walls or destroy certain objects as well as set fires. Physics also plays a role. For instance, if you fire a rocket launcher, the projectile follows a physically correct trajectory that you have to consider in battles.
You solve puzzles in the world, summon friends to support you, and Roguelike elements also play a part. You can explore locations repeatedly and find important items. Items play a big role as they determine your role and class. When you switch weapons, you also switch roles.
When is the game coming out? Tower of Fantasy is expected to launch in China later this year. There is no exact date yet.
What about a release in our country? There has not yet been an announcement of the online RPG for the West. However, it is released by Perfect World, which also distributes the MMORPG Neverwinter. The company is known for releasing games in Europe and the USA as well. Therefore, there is a chance that we can also play Tower of Fantasy. When that will be is still uncertain, probably not until 2021.
