The MMORPG Black Desert Online has been on the market for a long time and has been successful for quite some time. However, an update has ensured that more than twice as many new PC players are in the game. How did they manage that?
Where do all the players come from? Black Desert Online has long been one of the MMORPGs that are well visited. The buy-to-play game has been able to delight fans around the world for years with its beautiful graphics, action combat, and complete freedom. It even belongs to the currently best MMORPGs of 2022.
Now, however, the MMORPG has once again surged, as the developer Pearl Abyss announced in a press release. Accordingly, Black Desert has gained 230% more new daily users on PC in Europe and America since the last update.
Globally and on all consoles, the number of players is said to have increased by 165%. Both numbers indicate a very good status of the MMORPG. But what has changed with the update to achieve such successes?
What did the last updates bring? The big winter update in Black Desert Online brought more than just a few nice winter events. In fact, 17 of the 23 classes in Black Desert Online were fundamentally reworked.
Correspondingly, the MMORPG opened winter season servers where leveling could be done faster, allowing players to immediately try out the new-old classes. The new features of the 17 classes range from new hairstyles and outfits to new weapons and abilities.

At the same time, Pearl Abyss reset the skill points of all existing characters of these classes, so everyone has the chance to experience their old character completely anew.
In addition to the extensive changes to most classes, three new events were also introduced into the game with newer updates as well as numerous bug fixes.
The existing community has mixed feelings
How are the players reacting? The reboot of the classes has, of course, sparked discussions within the community. Many players are pleased with the reboot, but some fans are annoyed that their particular class was not touched.
Others see the changes to the classes themselves as mixed and perceive both good and bad effects on Black Desert Online and the balance in the game in general. Many classes are now much stronger than they were before, which some users find problematic.
What do the fans say? Under a reddit thread on the subject, a lively discussion is taking place about which changes to the classes were good and which perhaps were not so good (via reddit).
- Player SmolikOFF feels the changes are not extensive enough: “Of course, every class is now stronger than it was before. The problem is that Pearl Abyss promised us comprehensive changes and postponed other content for it. It should have been more than just a balance patch. Unfortunately, most classes only received a balance patch. That’s disappointing.”
- xaky05 is also undecided: “I like the mechanical changes and the new classes and damage changes. Only duels between some classes feel weird now. Whoever shoots first wins.”
- User Kolz is also not thrilled: “There was a lot more damage, yes, but not the quality-of-life improvements I was hoping for. There are some changes that I like that make life easier for me in PvE and PvP. Still, I’m not necessarily thrilled.”
