In a new livestream, the developers of Ashes of Creation presented their PvP system. In the video, they faced off against other devs and some players. However, one detail during the fights did not sit well with the fans.
What kind of livestream was it? Every last Friday of the month, the developers showcase new content for Ashes of Creation. This time, it was all about PvP.
Gameplay was shown where about 80 people fought against each other. This group consisted of players who purchased the most expensive backer packages and developers. The entire battle felt somewhat reminiscent of the battles in Cyrodiil in ESO:
- Many players in one place
- Very chaotic fights
- Little CC compared to other games like WoW and GW2
- Many effects
The latter is also a major criticism from viewers of the livestream.
Viewers feel lost in effects, Sharif promises improvement
What is the criticism? Viewers described the effects as far too large, colorful, and prominent. They are said to make the fights completely confusing. Often, the viewers are also unclear about which AoE effects are positive and which are negative.
In fact, the fights appear completely chaotic, especially to outsiders.

What do the developers say? Game Director and founder Steven Sharif explained during the livestream that the effects are not final. He promised adjustments and a significant reduction as the game develops further. Many of them are also supposed to be placeholders.
He also addressed another criticism regarding the appearance of the characters. Some criticized that all races move exactly the same and that animations like jumping are identical. This is also expected to change by release.
Mass battles are the focus in Ashes of Creation
What PvP content does the MMORPG offer? In Ashes of Creation, much revolves around the topic of PvP. Players can fight each other in the open world, where there is a corruption system meant to severely punish attacks on weak players:
- A high level of corruption results in fewer status points like health and mana. Eventually, the player will no longer be able to fight.
- At a certain level of corruption, players will be marked on the world map.
- Players with a high level of corruption can also lose their equipped gear.
However, there are also scenarios where you are “forced” into PvP:
- There are caravan events where players transport their goods. Participation in these events automatically marks you for PvP.
- The 5 castles and all cities can be attacked. In corresponding battles, you are also marked for PvP.
- There are special “Hunting Grounds” – areas where PvP is always active.
- There are special PvP arenas, which are, however, instanced.
What about balancing in PvP? Sharif revealed during the livestream that the balance in PvP is focused on mass battles. A specific adjustment for small 1v1 fights is therefore not planned.
It is possible that some of the 64 classes may be significantly superior to others.
24-hour livestream and information about the alpha
What else was revealed in the livestream? In addition to the PvP content, the next livestream was also discussed. It will take place on November 7 at 15:00 our time. As part of the charity event “Extra Life”, there will be a 24-hour stream. New gameplay is also expected to be shown there.
Furthermore, there was another mention of the plans regarding the alpha of Ashes of Creation. The planned dates are set, but there is always a chance that they may be postponed again.
