This week, a bizarre bug occurred in Old School RuneScape that could crash the client with just one word. In addition, there were numerous news about WoW and a detailed presentation of Palia, the social MMO.
The highlights of the week:
- Palia presented around an hour of gameplay in a video. I am sure: It’s not a classic MMORPG, but just what I need right now.
- In Old School RuneScape, the game crashed when you typed “Rainbow” in the chat. A similar bug happened 14 years ago. No wonder: It is a 10-year-old MMORPG based on a 22-year-old MMORPG that replicates the state this MMORPG had 16 years ago.
- Ethyrial: Echoes of Yore was released in May on Steam and is now officially the worst-rated MMORPG there.
The outrage of the week: The enhancement caller in WoW is too strong. With a special tactic, the damage of a death knight in the raid was increased to 13 million DPS. The group defeated a boss in 24 seconds instead of 2 minutes.
The discussion of the week: Ember Sword is selling land in the game for up to 145,000 Euros even before the release. In return, you are supposed to be able to earn taxes and even real money. What do you think of this kind of monetization?
New info on GW2 expansion and Ultima Online 2
This is what happened in the big MMORPGs:
- While the caller is currently too strong, the Holy Paladin was heavily nerfed, but many players find that perfectly fine. A player also made headlines by having collected more than 1,000 different mounts. Our WoW demon Cortyn also reported on the return of a popular character that many have overlooked in the new patch.
- ESO is available for free until July 27th, provided you get it from the Epic Store. The MMORPG just celebrated its release there. Additionally, the Quake Com will take place in Texas from August 10th to 13th, where ESO will also be present and hold a livestream (via ESO).
- In Guild Wars 2, the Festival of Four Winds started this week. There was also a new blog post about the relics, a new piece of equipment in the upcoming expansion (via GW2). Everything about Secrets of the Obscure can be found here: Guild Wars 2 will get a new expansion in August – Bringing the area I’ve been dreaming of for 18 years.
- In Black Desert, there were new events, including the introduction of the “Fantastic Horse Doom” (via BDO).
- In Final Fantasy XIV, the new Patch 6.45 was released on July 18th. This brought a new dungeon, new content for the blue mage, and new side quests (via FFXIV). We also reported on a streamer who was visited personally by Hironobu Sakaguchi, the creator of Final Fantasy, during a raid.
This is what happened in the small MMORPGs:
- In New World, the Summer Medleyfaire event returned. This is mainly about music, instruments, and fishing (via New World). However, although player numbers are currently rising again, streamer Asmongold had problems finding a group for a dungeon.
- Richard Garriot, the father of MMORPGs, would like to develop an Ultima Online 2.
- Albion Online will soon receive a new activity, Tracking. This was recently introduced in a video:
This is what happened in the MMORPGs in development:
- Ares: Rise of the Guardians is a new game that reminds of Destiny and confidently states: “We want to be the best MMORPG that comes out in 2023.”
- Blue Protocol received a new dungeon in Japan where players must finish as quickly as possible. In total, there are over 100 rewards, including titles and cosmetics. Additionally, the odds in the gacha mechanics have been increased (via MassivelyOP).
- A new sandbox MMORPG called Severed Lands was announced, which aims to combine PvE and PvP and does without classes (via MassivelyOP).
- The sandbox MMORPG Fractured is currently testing the server wars in PvP (via Fractured).
