In the lead-up to E3 2019, Microsoft released some tweets. Sharp-eyed observers have spotted a hidden clue about “Scarlet,” a codename believed to represent a new Xbox expected to be released in 2020. The next-gen Xbox is likely to be unveiled later today at the Microsoft press conference.
How was “Scarlet” hidden? Microsoft’s Xbox channel sent a series of seemingly innocent tweets. It was a sort of countdown, counting down to “0 days.”
The tweets all had the same structure: In the center, images were shown, with palm trees and a city lit up at night in the background.
There was actually nothing to see.
But one particularly attentive user examined the last 3 tweets and discovered that there was always a combination of letters and numbers visible on the left side of the screen.

First “R 255,” then “G 36,” and on the last day “B 0.”
The joke is, when you search for “255, 36, 0,” that is the hex code for “Scarlet,” the color “Crimson.” And that is one of the code names under which one of the new consoles is known, which we will see soon: a next-gen Xbox that will compete with the PlayStation 5:
- “Scarlett” represents the general codename for the next console generation
- Anaconda is said to be a “high-end” console
- Lockhart is a slightly toned-down version, similar to the current Xbox One S
Next-gen Xbox expected this evening
What does this mean? Microsoft is known for playing such games.
It was already anticipated before E3 2019 that Microsoft would show its next console generation. It is now even more certain that we will witness the unveiling.
When will we really see this? The Microsoft press conference is today, Sunday, June 9, at 10:00 PM our time. We will cover the Microsoft press conference 2019 just like the entire E3 here on MeinMMO and on MAX, the joint channel of MeinMMO, GameStar, and GamePro.
Update June 10, 0:04 AM: Microsoft has indeed presented the new Xbox One, Scarlett.
