Today we are asking in “Mein-MMO asks”: Do you want to keep your existing guardians in Destiny 2, or are you in favor of a complete fresh start?
Yesterday was the groundbreaking conference call from Activision, in which the publisher talked about the future of Destiny. It was announced that a full-fledged sequel, a “full Destiny sequel”, will be released in autumn 2017. This has now been confirmed.
But what exactly does a full-fledged sequel mean? It is clear that it will be more than an “expansion”, i.e. at least one notch bigger than the currently thickest expansion “The Taken King”.
But does a “full sequel” also mean that a line will be drawn under the current Destiny? That the guardians have to leave everything behind?
“Hard Reset” or continue playing with old guardians? What do you want?
A “Hard Reset” would contradict the previous statement that the guardians will always keep their characters. It was said that one would never have to create a new character, even through expansions and sequels.
Nonetheless, rumors have been circulating in recent months that Destiny 2 will bring “shocking changes” and that characters would have to be left behind. Many players interpret the current statement from Activision as a “Hard Reset”, meaning a complete fresh start.
When the first rumors were circulating months ago, there were several polls on Reddit and from YouTubers asking the community what they would prefer. The opinions were mixed:
- Some said: Great, the time with the previous guardians was nice. But now it is time to embark on new adventures with new characters. We leave the old behind in the past; in the future, I only want to experience new things.
- Others said: I have spent so many hours in Destiny – that can’t be for nothing. I want to carry over my character and my items. My guardian should also face future adventures.
Something must remain?
However, many players wish: Yes, a “Hard Reset” is the right step, but there should be a memento of the previous triumph moments in the sequel. There are wishes such as:
- Every guardian should be allowed to carry over a favorite weapon,
- there will be a Hall of Fame in Destiny 2 where the statues of the previous guardians are displayed,
- you will get a shader or a badge that says: I was involved from 2014 to 2017
and many more ideas meant to remember the previous guardians.
Already under our article about the statements from Activision, some of you have commented on a possible “Hard Reset”. I would like to quote a statement from groovy666. No matter what the future of Destiny may bring, “your deeds (and data) are not worthless just because they are not carried over to a ‘new’ game, YOU experienced them – YOU had fun – YOU celebrated these successes.”
Therefore, we are now asking you explicitly: What is your stance on this issue? Are you in favor of a fresh start, or do you definitely not want to part with your guardians?
