You have probably already noticed: We have given Mein-MMO.de a new look. This enriches Mein-MMO.de with new possibilities that will make you as readers feel more part of the whole.
In MMO jargon, one would say that we are now in Early Access with the remake. We are not finished yet. The website will undergo further features and adjustments after the reopening.
Why now?
The old Mein-MMO.de stood on shaky ground for a long time and heated up our server oven quite a bit. The site was simply not designed for such a large, regular number of users and a rapidly growing database with more and more articles.
We have hinted at it several times in the comments or even in the last editorial greeting. You have become many, many more. In 2017, we grew almost by 40% compared to 2016. And currently in 2018, we are on a course that is 100% above the numbers from the previous year. We are currently close to 3 million unique users per month. In Germany, only GameStar and Spieletipps precede us on the horizon among gaming sites.
That’s also why it felt like an eternity without improvements or changes on the site. Because we decided long ago for a new foundation. We wanted to take the next step with Mein-MMO.de and be future-proof with a new website that can handle further growth spurts.
The focus of Mein MMO in 2018 will be to involve you, the community, more in the site. In conversations with readers, we often hear that we have built a decent and beautiful community. We want to put them in the spotlight even more and address their needs.
A lot has already changed behind the scenes at Mein-MMO in the past 2 years, our team has been significantly expanded. Now the website also had to catch up. In the last few weeks, we have been working intensively with our developer Ben on the relaunch after initial preparations at the end of 2017. #ThanksBen. You haven’t seen much of him yet, but I can tell you: He’s an amazing guy who simply fits perfectly with Mein-MMO.de.
What’s new?
The relaunch will take place step by step. In the next few days, we will still improve some parts in design, performance, and structure. We have a large list of things to work through. And of course, we will also respond to your feedback. For you, the following innovations are especially interesting:
- User account system: You can now register here on Mein-MMO.de and tailor the site to your personal preferences by following your favorite games. Many of you have wished to see only certain games or to exclude certain games. That should now be possible. We will also expand this feature further.
- User reviews: You can now write tests for games that will also appear on the game page and selected on the homepage – because we think that you are the experts on many games.
- Ratings: Users can give ratings for games. In general, we have also spruced up the test pages for our authors.
- Page performance: We have improved it and expect further boosts in the next 2 weeks.
- New design: We have designed Mein-MMO together with a designer more uniformly and given it a makeover without tearing down the old wallpaper underneath. The look and feel of Mein-MMO.de should not have changed significantly.
- User interactions: We are putting comments more in the foreground, and you can now “level up” posts that you like.
- Game database: It can now be filtered by release dates and has been optimized for mobile devices.
Additionally, the authors now have more tools available to make posts more engaging. We now have a modern, mobile-optimized table of contents, tables can be created more easily and operated on smartphones. Content boxes can be integrated, and so on. Overall, this whole structure allows us to be more flexible and respond faster to users’ wishes.
Things might still change
Many other changes have also been made in the background that you cannot see and that enable us to implement even more ideas. One example of this: The following 3 points are possible and being considered, but we will still decide whether and when to make them accessible to you.
- Forum: We want to experiment with a forum soon.
- App: Although it is not yet definite, it could be that something happens here in 2018 or 2019.
- A social network: Imagine a page where you can join groups for the games and interact with other players or authors on a matching social wall. Also independent of the posts that currently exist on the page. A platform that allows you to connect with others or even follow authors and other users. Looking for a raid group? No problem, ask here. Want to post a screenshot of your favorite game and discuss a discovery with others? No problem.
