In Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Warzone you can finally enhance your weapons with the mysterious Obsidian Camo. Here are all the prerequisites and tasks for the new skin designed for only the toughest players.
This is behind the Obsidian Camo: The huge update from April 29 brought a lot of new content for the CoD battlefields. Included is the feature that hardcore players have been waiting for: the Obsidian Camo.
Originally, the prestigious skin was known as “Master Camo”. However, how your weapon changes as a result has remained a secret until now.
True to Batman’s motto “Is it available in black?” you dip your favorite weapon with the new spray into a deep black, infused with a raised, matte shimmer. If the other skins are too colorful, you should unlock the Obsidian Camo:
What is required for the new camouflage? To call the pitch-black skin your own, you must unlock the Gold camouflage for the corresponding weapon. This in turn requires you to master all regular sprays through challenges.
Not required are:
- Platinum Camo
- Damascus Camo
Since both skins are not weapon-specific, but require the entire weapon class to be considered. You can unlock the Obsidian Camo even if you only play one weapon – but intensively.

How to unlock the Obsidian camouflage: Depending on the weapon class, you must gather a specific number of kills with your chosen gun in a handful of matches.
These are the challenges for primary weapons:
- Assault Rifles: Achieve 15 kills in a game 200 times
- Submachine Guns: Achieve 15 hits in a game 150 times
- Shotguns: Achieve 15 hits in a game 150 times
- Light Machine Guns: Achieve 15 hits in a game 150 times
- DMRs: Achieve 15 hits in a game 125 times
- Sniper Rifles: Achieve 15 hits in a game 125 times
- Riot Shield: Get 750 kills
These are the challenges for secondary weapons:
- Pistol: Achieve 15 hits in a game 100 times
- PILA, JOKR & Strela (launchers): Destroy a vehicle or killstreak 100 times
- Rocket Launcher (RPG): Achieve 5 kills in a game 150 times
- Combat Knife: Achieve 10 kills in a game 125 times
The challenges are structured similarly to the tasks for unlocking the weapons from past seasons. As some users report (via reddit), for example, achieving 30 kills in one game counts as double progress.
This is also in the fresh update: The current update for Warzone and CoD MW is quite large – for good reason. The patch also offers these new contents:
- Frankensteining / Frankensmithing for blueprints
- Shoot the Ship with “Uplifted” and “Grind”
- New LMG – Bruen MK9
- Gas changes in Warzone
- “Most Wanted” contract for revivals
- New item “Armor satchel” allows you to carry 8 plates
- A reporting function in the kill cam
