Compare the Market used Google Trends to see which games were most searched between January 1 and March 23, 2020. This shows how high the interest of players in the titles was during this time.

As the map shows, most people in North and South America and Australia as well as Eastern Europe play Roblox.
Fortnite is particularly popular in France, Italy, and Africa.
Players in Russia and Asia apparently spend most of their time playing Minecraft.
PUBG is popular in India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, and parts of Africa.
What about Germany? Surprisingly, the most popular game in Germany is Animal Crossing: New Horizons.
One might think that this title is played particularly often in its country of origin, Japan, but according to the data from Compare the Market, Call of Duty: Warzone is number 1 there.
What do the numbers say? As Google Trends was used to collect the data, the data do not show how often a game has been sold or how many players it had. It merely illustrates how high the interest in the titles was during the period mentioned above.
This naturally allows for some conclusions about how popular a game is. The more it is searched for, the more interest there is in it.
