On July 3, a new core set of Magic the Gathering is released: M21. In collaboration with Wizards of the Coast, we are presenting an exclusive new spoiler card from the upcoming set here on MeinMMO.
The rare card is named Volcanic Salvo, it is a sorcery and associated with the color red:
The effect of the sorcery: This spell costs X less to cast, where X is equal to the total power of the creatures you control. Volcanic Salvo deals 6 damage to up to two creatures and/or planeswalkers of your choice.
What is special about the card? The high mana cost of 12 immediately jumps out at you, which can be painful. However, let’s take a closer look at the effect of the spell. The power of creatures on the field can significantly reduce the cost, which is especially easy to reach in the group mode “Commander”. It is also interesting that Volcanic Salvo can deal damage directly to planeswalkers. This could benefit aggro decks that often have trouble dealing with planeswalkers.
The sorcery can be practical and strong when you have the right creatures on the field to bring down the costs. However, this might be somewhat harder to achieve in standard mode.
What you need to know about the new Core Set M21
Core sets are generally aimed at making Magic: The Gathering more accessible for new players. This is also the case with the new core set M21, and there will be some starter products available, like a starter kit. With that, you can learn the most complex game in the world step by step.
New “Welcome Booster” packs will also be introduced, which will be distributed for free to new players. These will contain legendary cards as well as useful game information.
Veterans will encounter familiar faces in the new core set, as there will be some reprints of famous cards. You can get all the information about the core set 2021 on the official Magic: The Gathering website.
Then the release: The core set 2021 will be released in MTG Arena, the digital Magic: The Gathering, starting June 25. In physical form, the cards will be available from July 3.
