This week, Lost Ark was once again in the spotlight among MMORPGs. The big update on May 19th released many new contents. However, the quarterly reports from NCSoft and Square Enix also made headlines. Additionally, there were some new MMORPG introductions. We have gathered all the important MMORPG news of the week.
The highlights of the week:
- Lost Ark released the huge May patch. It introduced the new class Destroyer, new instances, and a small change that is celebrated by many players.
- The new MMORPG Shadow’s Kiss attracts with vampires, blood, and BDSM. However, the new trailer confuses and disappoints many fans.
- Final Fantasy XIV celebrated its success in 2021 with Endwalker and “drastically” increased subscription numbers. This saves Square Enix the entire year.
The controversies of the week:
- The quarterly report from NCSoft shows how successful mobile MMORPGs are. Lineage W earned more than eight times as much as Aion, Blade & Soul, and Guild Wars 2 combined. Nevertheless, the next big MMORPG from NCSoft will be a PC and console game.

Guild Wars 2 announces next patch, two new MMORPGs coming to Steam
What happened in the major MMORPGs:
- In WoW Classic, the first guilds defeated the final boss of Burning Crusade – Kill’Jaeden. He survived narrowly for 62 days in 2008, but in Classic, only 52 minutes.
- Coinciding with the release of the new class in Lost Ark, we created a guide to the best builds with the Destroyer.
- Guild Wars 2 announced the next update with new episodes of the “Living World” Season 1. It will be released on May 24th (via GW2).
What is happening in the minor MMORPGs:
- ArcheAge lifted some permanent bans and allows banned players back onto the servers. It is suspected that weak player numbers might be a reason.
- In New World, a player set an interesting record. He brought a character to level 60 without leaving the first settlement and buying items. He focused primarily on fishing.
- The sandbox MMORPG Fractured opens its beta. From May 25th to 31st, everyone can test the game (via Fractured).
- Age of Conan celebrates its 14th birthday and announced the events only on the launch day itself (via MassivelyOP).
- Dungeons & Dragons Online postpones the release of the new expansion Isle of Dread to June 22nd (via MassivelyOP).
What is happening in the MMORPGs in development:
- Past Fate, an MMORPG focused on the medieval era, released a new trailer. It will be released on Steam.
- Camelot Unchained opens servers in Germany, but the atmosphere in the game is still bad.
- With Profane, a new sandbox MMORPG is currently starting its first tests. It promises maximum freedom.
- The PvE MMORPG Pantheon: Rise of the Fallen revealed in a new Producer Letter that at least Crafting and Gathering have reached “playtest status” (via Pantheon).
