Rank 3: Smaug
Smaug is probably the most famous dragon on this list. He appears prominently in “The Hobbit”. Smaug belongs to the winged fire dragons.
Attracted by great treasures, he flew to the Lonely Mountain and virtually occupied it. In the process, he devastated villages, killed numerous dwarves and men, and subsequently withdrew to the mountain. There he guarded his treasure until one day Bilbo Baggins appeared to steal from him.
Here the dragon showed that he could be not only destructive but also clever and willing to talk with his opponent. In the end, however, that was all in vain. Smaug broke out of the mountain, destroyed Lake-town, and once again demonstrated the devastating power that slumbered within him. The dragon met his end from a black arrow shot by the archer Bard.
