In League of Legends, champions are regularly reworked, especially those that are unpopular or simply do not fit into the modern LoL. The rework for Skarner is finally upon us, and Riot is showing us what he can do. Players seem to be looking forward to it.
What are reworks in LoL? Champions are regularly reworked. Core mechanics are modernized and changed to varying degrees. There can be many reasons for a rework. Whether it’s old champions that are no longer very modern, like Dr. Mundo, or simply unpopular champions that hardly anyone plays.
The latter category includes the scorpion Skarner, who has always been quite unpopular. Looking at op.gg , one can see that he is currently the least popular champion, being played in only about 0.49% of all ranked matches. But now he is finally being adjusted and almost all of his abilities have changed.
It looks really fun
Skarner has been completely reworked. Not only his appearance and the look of his skins have changed, but also all of his abilities.
- His passive ability generates stacks with attacks and abilities against enemies, which deal damage based on maximum health after 3 stacks for a certain duration.
- With his Q ability, he tears a piece of earth from the ground, and his next 3 auto-attacks deal additional damage, have increased range, and he has increased attack speed; during his third hit, he throws the piece of earth on the ground.
- If you press Q again before making the auto-attacks, he throws the piece of earth.
- With his W, Skarner gains a shield, deals damage around him, and slows down enemies.
- With his E, Skarner dashes forward, ignoring all walls and terrain, and grabs the first enemy or monster, slamming them against the next wall and stunning the enemy.
- His ultimate has not fundamentally changed; he can now take 3 enemies with him. While holding them, he receives bonus movement speed for a short time. However, he cannot use his Q, E, or Flash abilities during the ultimate.

The community on Reddit is thrilled about the rework and looks forward to trying the old champion in a new guise.
- GaiusQuintus:
That Skarner bursts out from the walls like a goddamn horror movie monster is fantastic.
- daswef2:
I personally look forward to this kit, it looks fun and seems to strike a better balance between too easy and too crazy compared to some other releases.
- Glizzy_Cannon:
I love the abilities, but his model is so dull. They should have just kept his crystalline exoskeleton or at least a better color.
The rework of Skarner will be released with the corresponding patch on April 2, 2024. We will then see how his abilities perform in everyday practice. Many of the champions we know today looked very different before and received a rework. 5 of them can be seen here: 5 reworked champions in LoL that were once very different
