Fnatic is a top favorite from the LEC, the European League of Legends league, and former world champion. However, the team made one or two wrong decisions regarding their team composition in winter, which now prevented them from advancing to the group stage of the Winter Split.
What is the current status of Fnatic? Due to their poor performance in the games, they were only able to secure two wins. This was not enough, and they missed their chance to continue playing in the Winter Split.
Furthermore, there was a lot of criticism for the team, as none of the star players could convince. Wunder and Rekkles could not hold their own on their lanes. In a video on Twitter, Rekkles apologizes for his disastrous gameplay and assures improvement.
Now the team faces the important decision of how to prepare for the Spring Split. Although there is still plenty of time, they have a lot of catching up to do to ensure that the Spring Split does not end like the Winter season.

What do other pro players think? Some pro players have commented on the weak performance of Fnatic. Specifically, Jankos, the jungler from Team Heretics and former teammate of Rekkles, has addressed Fnatic and compared the team to G2 from 2021. He expresses this in a stream on Twitch. Fnatic has not yet decided on the two or the one “playmaker.” He means a key person around whom a team composition can be built. Furthermore, he sees a potential problem in the strong personalities of the players. Both Rekkles, Humanoid, and Wunder are players who know what they want and compete in this respect.
Where is the issue with Rekkles? Moreover, it was a wrong decision to sign the ADC Rekkles and bench the strong German player Upset. The team made this move because they had few other options. Because pretty much no one wanted to play with the new supporter Rhuckz.
Only Rekkles took on the challenge, although he was only ranked 5th or 6th on the priority list for the bot lane. This was revealed by the team manager of Aegis, a team from the LFL, on Twitter:
Jankos also focuses on the individual play styles of the main players. He talks about the well-known, solid play style that Rekkles brings. The problem, however, is that it does not fit into the current meta.
The current gameplay tactics are characterized by flexibility on the bot lane, and the old habits and safe playstyle of Rekkles are at odds with this. Thus, many different champions are played, especially on the bot lane. The most common combination is Ashe as support, with champions that are geared towards short fights, such as Varus, Zeri, and Jhin.
Why isn’t it working on the top lane? Then there is Wunder’s playstyle. The biggest WoW player from the LoL community has always played champions that support the team on the top lane. However, the current meta requires top laners to play “playmakers.”
By “playmakers,” we mean champions that actively move around the map and can decide team fights for their side. Champions include K’Sante, Jax, and Camille. These are all champions that Wunder has not practiced very often until now. Hence, he feels this particularly in the current meta.
The tips Jankos provides are either to look at the play strengths of individual players and play around one or two, or to gain more practice with the current tactics. They still have plenty of time to do so before the Spring Split.
