For 23-year-old Elias “Upset” Lipp, the last few months in League of Legends have been a rollercoaster ride. The young man played fantastic LoL for Fnatic, yet was thrown out of the team and benched. Now, however, he has found a new team and is immediately back at the top of the league. With a KDA of 44.0, he leads the statistics, and his team is on a championship course.
This was the quirky situation of Upset:
- The German ADC “Upset” made a name for himself at Schalke, later transferring to Origen. In 2020, he finally joined Fnatic as a young talent, replacing the legendary Rekkles.
- He played for the team for 3 years and became the focal point of the team. As a cautious acting bot laner, Upset achieved fantastic statistics, repeatedly leading the rankings – he was considered the biggest talent in the bot lane in Europe, a top-tier player.
- However, his team did not achieve the desired success and in 2022, Rekkles returned to Fnatic. Upset was benched. Although Fnatic played terribly without the German, Rekkles insisted on a starting position guarantee. Therefore, Upset could no longer play for Fnatic and was essentially redundant. He mainly streamed on Twitch thereafter.
Upset joins Perkz at Team Vitality
This was now the turning point: After Rekkles had received his starting position guarantee, Upset finally transferred to Team Vitality, who needed a strong bot laner to relieve their star mid laner Perkz.
Team Vitality is a French project aimed at perhaps the biggest European star player, the Croatian Perkz. However, the project has not been functioning so far, every team combination fell short of expectations. Players were repeatedly swapped out.
3 games and not even dead once
How is it going for Upset now? Remarkably well. Team Vitality has won all of their first 3 games, including a stomp against Fnatic. With 22-3-49, they gave Fnatic no chance. Upset scored 5-0-9 on Xayah. Rekkles had 1-5-1 on Zeri. That was a thrashing.
Upset is playing outstandingly strong for Team Vitality:
- After the first 3 games, Upset has a KDA of 44.0.
- 21 kills and 23 assists stand against 0 deaths.
- The man hasn’t even died once.
He also receives high praise from his new mid laner. He writes: ‘Perkz farms in the middle and gets giga-carried by bot and the jungler. It’s like in Season 6 and I love it.’
After carrying the main burden of the team at Fnatic for years, he now has decent firepower around him at Team Vitality with Perkz in the mid lane, the German supporter Kaiser as his bot lane partner, and the Chinese mega-talent Bo in the jungle. The 21-year-old Bo also has a KDA of 44.0 after the first 3 games and has not died once either.
Upset and Team Vitality seem to be on course for the title and MSI.
His new jungler, Bo, has already experienced quite a bit in LoL despite his young age:
