The release of Elden Ring is approaching, and we are slowly learning more about the new game from FromSoftware. Now we also know the 10 classes you can choose from at the beginning. Fans already have a strange favorite.
Where does the leak come from? A user has posted an image of the 10 classes in the subreddit for Elden Ring. It looks very much like it comes from the official strategy guide.
The original post has since been removed, but the image is still visible. It shows the 5 already known classes, along with the remaining ones that have not yet been officially confirmed.

However, these have only recently been officially confirmed by the official Twitter account of Elden Ring. Here is a list of the classes:
- Vagabond
- Warrior
- Hero
- Bandit
- Astrologer
- Prophet
- Samurai
- Prisoner
- Confessor
- Wretch
Keep in mind that the image from reddit is a leak and that the stats shown may differ from those in the final game.
Fans love the quirkiest class – reminiscent of the legendary Dark Souls predecessor
This is what fans say about the new classes: In the Elden Ring community, two favorites quickly emerge: the Confessor and the Prisoner class.
However, the Prisoner looks quite odd with his round helmet, as aside from that, he wears simple, tattered clothing.
Why is the Prisoner so popular? He is a quite obvious reference to a character from Berserk, the Japanese manga:
- This served FromSoftware as inspiration for their stories in many ways for Dark Souls, as well as for Elden Ring.
- The Prisoner, with his iron mask and his backstory, is a clear reference for fans to the character Griffith. They share the same background story.
- The Prisoner is considered a former noble who was captured and forced to wear this mask.
- If one were to make a list of clear references made repeatedly to Berserk, it would be quite long.
Griffith himself was also forced to wear such a mask and also used a similar rapier weapon. His character is in turn based on the well-known character – The Man in the Iron Mask – from the 1998 film of the same name.
What do players like about the Confessor? The Confessor primarily impresses with the look of the dark cloak. Furthermore, players hope that the Confessor possesses summoning spells.
This is already hinted at in his backstory. The Confessor is a spy of the church and specializes in covert missions. The church traditionally stands for miracle abilities in FromSoftware’s games, which are now referred to as summons in Elden Ring.
Many players also welcome the Wretch class. This is the typical beggar class that starts without armor, with a pathetic wooden shield and a cudgel.
This is the “Purist” class that starts with balanced stats and is especially suitable for experienced players who want to experiment a lot.
Starting from February 25, you can choose which class you will play Elden Ring for the first time.
