Riot wants to produce a movie and bring League of Legends to the big screen. Riot Games co-founder Brandon “Ryze” Beck discusses the plans and challenges of the LoL film project.
During a round of “Ask Riot”, a possible film in the League of Legends universe was discussed, among other things. Riot Games co-founder Brandon “Ryze” Beck has long dreamed of seeing his champions on the big screen but also recognizes the challenges of such an undertaking. As one of the most successful MOBAs in the world, a League of Legends movie would certainly find a lot of appeal. League of Legends would not be the first film adaptation of a video game. The Warcraft movie is one of the most well-known and is currently the most successful video game adaptation.
This is why Riot has hesitated to produce a LoL movie

Most adaptations of video games receive poor reviews and have not become major box office hits. For instance, Alone in the Dark, Street Fighter, or Need for Speed were heavily criticized. Therefore, the step toward film production should be well-considered, even though Riot would prefer to start on a film sooner rather than later. Looking at the cinematics and music videos of League of Legends, Riot certainly has the potential to produce a great film.
Riot experiments with film production despite concerns
Despite these hurdles, Riot is exploring the film industry. Telling a story in film format requires different skills compared to video games. But Riot is taking on this challenge and trying to explore various formats. Brandon “Ryze” Beck hopes that these experiments and explorations will bear fruit one day and lead to a cinema format. He would also be satisfied with a smaller screen than the big screen, depending on what makes the most sense.
Leya says: I believe Riot can produce great cinema, but I also understand their concerns. Unfortunately, most adaptations of video games are really not the best. I like to hear that Riot wants to take its time to deliver the appropriate quality.
