If you turn into a Scream Queen in horror games, you might want to steer clear of this: A new co-op game on Steam aims to punish you for every scream and tries everything to elicit one from you.
Which game is being talked about? Don’t Scream Together by developer Digital Cybercherries has nothing to do with the very similarly named Don’t Starve Together, but it does share two similarities with the game:
- Both games are co-op spinoffs of a previously released single-player game
- Both times, a simple “Together” (meaning “together”) has been added to the name to symbolize the co-op aspect

One scream and it’s over
What is the game about? In Don’t Scream Together, you and your friends wander through a pitch-black forest at night. Your goal is quite simple: You need to survive until 8 AM and escape the forest. Time only passes when you move.
The whole affair becomes more difficult because you should remain as quiet as possible during your walk in the woods. The game is designed to get you to scream. The developers themselves describe Don’t Scream Together as an “Online Co-op Jumpscare Horror Simulator,” so you can expect many jumpscares.
A single scream can reset the game for everyone or at least make it harder for the remaining players. This depends on the chosen game mode, of which there are two according to the Steam page for the game:
- Scream & Restart: If someone screams, the entire team has to start over.
- Scream & Return as a Hunter: The game continues, but the screamer returns as a hunter who can also scare others.
Do I need a microphone to play the game? Yes, to play Don’t Scream Together you must have an active microphone. Otherwise, the game cannot react to your screams (and that would be cheating). In the game, you communicate via a proximity chat: Other players can only hear you as long as they are near you.
When will the game be released? Don’t Scream Together will be released on December 3, 2025 on Steam.
