Jeremy Renner played the archer Hawkeye in several Marvel movies. However, the actor was unhappy with his role in “Marvel’s The Avengers” and tried to have his character written out of the script.
Jeremy Renner was first seen as Clint Barton aka Hawkeye in a brief scene in Thor (2011). At that time, the actor was not even credited for his cameo appearance in the credits. It was only in Marvel’s The Avengers (2012) that the Marvel character was properly introduced to the audience.
In a Q&A at the London Film and Comic Con in 2016, Jeremy Renner mentioned that he tried to have Hawkeye killed off during filming. The reason: he was dissatisfied with the role.

Why did Jeremy Renner want to get rid of the character? As Jeremy Renner explained, he was somewhat disappointed with his role in Marvel’s The Avengers.
He was bothered by the fact that his character was brainwashed by the film’s antagonist, Loki, right at the beginning of the story, and then walked around like a brainless puppet. Especially since he was actually looking forward to getting to know Clint Barton better as a character.
How did he want to get rid of Hawkeye? So the actor began making it clear to his cast and crew members that he had no problem with the death of the Avenger.
He even offered a solution for how he could envision Hawkeye’s exit:
“I had a heart attack in every scene – I was walking around with Scarlett Johansson and just thinking: ‘Urgh’.” Jeremy Renner theatrically clutched his chest while telling this.
And they said: “What are you doing, man?”
“I give you the opportunity to just throw me out of the movie. Just so you know, at any point when you want to kill me off, that Daddy will have a heart attack.”

Fortunately, the frustration with the character did not last, and Jeremy Renner changed his mind about Hawkeye’s death, as he further mentioned in the Q&A.
“I don’t want him to die now,” Renner said in 2016: “I’ve really explored him a lot, and I can’t wait to keep exploring him, and there are some really cool ideas coming.“ By now, we’ve seen several of those: There have been multiple appearances in the Avengers films and even a solo series for Hawkeye. To this day, the film character is still very much alive.
