The upcoming game in the Call of Duty series follows a bizarre naming convention. Because it will simply be called Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.
What is the next Call of Duty called? Games from long-running franchises sometimes follow strange conventions in naming. This is especially true for Call of Duty, which has been called Modern Warfare, Advanced Warfare, Infinite Warfare, and then again just WW2.
However, the name of the next title surprises again, as the CoD for 2019 is simply called Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.
The only difference from the (almost) similarly named game from 2007 is that this game is called Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. The latest game will not contain a number at all, but amusingly it would be the 4th game in the Modern Warfare series by Infinity Ward.
How do we know that the game is called that? The famous investigative journalist Jason Schreier from Kotaku claims to have uncovered the info about the new CoD. Since Schreier is considered well-connected and has often been correct in his statements, there might actually be some truth to the new name.
How are the fans reacting? On Reddit many fans are laughing at the quirky naming of the new game.

What could be in the new CoD? Perhaps the developers with the “new” name are pursuing a specific plan to return the series to its roots. Because the overly futuristic titles like Infinite Warfare were received poorly.
Thus, with WW2 they went back to the beginning of the series, in World War II. It’s possible that Modern Warfare intends to do the same, just set in a contemporary context to our present time.
