Now that the 3rd wave of PS5 orders has (almost) passed, many players are wondering: Will I still be able to get a PS5 somewhere? Maybe in 2020 and at least before Christmas? We summarize the current situation regarding the availability of the PlayStation 5 for you.
What is the 3rd wave about? The PS5 could already be ordered in 2 chaotic pre-order waves. However, not everyone who wanted to secure a PS5 at launch in Germany on November 19 was successful.
On Launch Day, there were no PlayStation 5 consoles available in retail and there won’t be any for the foreseeable future. The reason is the restrictions due to COVID. However, there was at least a chance to buy the PS5 again at some retailers. They offered online ordering opportunities on 19.11.
However, things were just as chaotic here as in the first two waves – if not even more so. In short: Not everyone who wanted to buy a PS5 has been able to get one yet. But what does the current situation look like for those who still want one?
This is the current situation regarding PS5 availability: Currently, the PlayStation 5 is completely sold out again.
In addition, there are again reports of subsequent cancellations after the 3rd wave – for example at Otto. Even if you were able to secure a copy on November 19, the PS5 you thought was secured could still be taken away from you – apparently due to technical problems.
By the way, how did you experience the PS5 Launch Day? Some are already playing, others are anxious and cursing – How did your PS5 launch go?
Will you still be able to get a PS5 this year?
Medimax may still be the last KNOWN chance for many:
Update 20.11., 9:30 AM: The situation at Medimax seems to have already been resolved.
We at MeinMMO called Medimax again and asked whether the sale was already over or if it was still worth waiting. The response is likely to disappoint many who have been waiting.
The employee was not 100% sure, but said that some had already gotten through and that it basically isn’t worth waiting on their site anymore, which is still struggling with technical issues.
Original message:
The 3rd wave was only offered by a limited number of retailers, the quantity was limited. Numerous providers struggled with technical problems due to the massive rush – including Medimax.
However, while others managed to get their offers running throughout November 19, Medimax is still struggling with technical problems even now, on November 20. As of now (20.11., 7:30 AM) we have not been able to find reports of successful purchases at Medimax.
When contacted by phone, Medimax’s customer service explained on the afternoon of November 19 that they were experiencing technical issues with their servers and were working hard to resolve them. They advised to keep trying on their site. However, so far, apparently no one has had success. The PS5 stock there is likely still available.
There are also no updates from Medimax on Facebook regarding the current situation. Since November 19, it has been stated there: They cannot say when exactly the site will be live again.
It may still be worth keeping a close eye on Medimax’s site today. You can find it here: Order PS5 from Medimax
Will there be more stock at Amazon? The online giant’s new stock was sold out in no time on November 19. However, many desperate customers contacted customer service and support, and some were advised: Check back in the coming days and weeks – there may be more available.
Whether that is true, many doubt. Because often one had the impression that one was dealing with poorly trained staff who also made contradictory statements – this is the general sentiment. So we will have to see what these support claims actually amount to in the end.
But if you want to be completely sure, check Amazon regularly over the next few days.
Possible small stock quantities in between: It is also quite possible that, for example, due to cancellations, booking errors, lack of creditworthiness from customers, or smaller restocks, smaller quantities of PS5 may occasionally become available at some retailers in the coming days and weeks. However, there is no guarantee, nor do we know anything more specific about it.
Resellers: There isn’t much to say about this. The trade of the PS5 on eBay is booming, where you could theoretically immediately get the new console. Brazen resellers charge outrageous prices there and on other platforms. Whether anyone really wants to buy there is up to each individual. However, we advise against it.
This is what Sony says: PlayStation head Jim Ryan recently spoke with the BBC about the launch of the PlayStation 5. In the conversation, he also touched upon sales.
And Ryan gave hope to all those who haven’t been able to get a PS5 yet. He said:
No specific times or quantities were mentioned. It is also unclear how the reported efforts to replenish stocks are progressing. But at least there might still be a chance to order a PS5 this year.
But even if – whether you will receive the PlayStation 5 in 2020 is another question. Because already in the 3rd wave, delivery times vary greatly. Some say the newly ordered PS5 will arrive today, on November 20, or on November 21. Others may have to wait until December 16 or even longer.
And even now, some pre-order customers from the 1st and 2nd waves are still waiting for their PS5, although they were supposed to be delivered in time for the launch in Germany on November 19.
Conclusion: In short: Yes, even if Medimax now apparently falls through – there are still chances for a PS5 in 2020, and perhaps even by Christmas. However, more concrete information is still not available.
