What is Denuvo? Denuvo is a widely used, controversial anti-piracy and anti-tamper software (DRM). It encrypts game files and checks the license upon startup. Players accuse the manufacturer of causing PCs to slow down and consume resources.
But is this controversial software also in use for Crimson Desert? MeinMMO explains what we know so far.
It is currently unknown whether Crimson Desert will use Denuvo
Is Crimson Desert using Denuvo? So far, nothing concrete is known about this, and the developers have not commented on it yet.
It is important to note: So far, there is no concrete indication of the use of Denuvo in Crimson Desert on the official shop page on Steam. In comparison, on the shop page of Anno 117 on Steam, the note can be found: “Third-party DRM: Denuvo Anti-tamper.”
This specific note is currently missing for Crimson Desert. Currently, there is only the mention that one must agree to a third-party EULA.
What happens next? It can certainly happen that the manufacturer decides at short notice to protect an important release like Crimson Desert with Denuvo. In many cases, this only protects the release and shortly thereafter the protection is removed again.
Pearl Abyss may alternatively rely on other DRM methods: Particularly unpopular among players is Enigma DRM, which is increasingly used by Capcom in its games.
What about the PS5 and Xbox version? Console games usually come without Denuvo and rely on their own copy protection measures from Sony or Microsoft. However, Denuvo offers a special tool for developers, “Denuvo Anti-Cheat,” to prevent aimbotting or wallhacks on the PS5. This is usually optional and not required by Sony for PS5 games.
